Please Note: Kern Community College District is continuously accepting applications for part-time, hourly faculty positions. Kern Community College District is inviting applications for part-time, hourly adjunct instructors. The starting salary is $60.00/hour; the hourly rate may vary based on assignment type and the Lecture Hour Equivalent (LHE) formula. For further details, please refer to the CCA collective bargaining agreement or your college HR office.

Representative Duties

This position is part of an adjunct pool that will be utilized to fill part-time teaching roles for the academic year. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering instruction in various lower-division courses covering the principles and techniques of food preparation, food management, food production services, restaurant management, and other related courses in the Child Development Program, depending on the applicant's qualifications and institutional needs. Additional responsibilities include staying current in the discipline, developing and updating curriculum, employing computer and multimedia technology as appropriate, utilizing diverse teaching methodologies, and actively engaging in departmental, college, and discipline-related activities. This role may involve teaching at various instructional sites, including day or evening classes, weekend classes, large-sized classes, and distance learning classes, as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in child development, early childhood education, human development, home economics/family and consumer education studies with a specialization in child development/early childhood education;

OR - Bachelor's degree in any of the above fields AND Master's degree in social work, educational supervision, elementary education, special education, psychology, bilingual/bicultural education, life management/home economics, family life studies, or family and consumer studies;

OR - A valid credential authorizing full-time teaching of Child Development and Education at the Community College level;

OR - The equivalent. Certain combinations of education, experience, and other accomplishments in the field may be considered equivalent to the stated minimum qualifications. Candidates who believe they possess such equivalent qualifications must submit an APPLICATION FOR EQUIVALENCE form along with supporting documents. AND - A demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Note: Degrees and credits must be from accredited institutions (Title V Section). Any degree from a country other than the United States, including Canada and Great Britain, must be evaluated by an evaluation service.

• Ability to assess student learning outcomes;

• Knowledge of computers and a willingness to explore new technologies that would benefit the program;

• Knowledge of and commitment to the California community college mission;
