Basic Function

Under supervision, facilitate the nurturing, growth, and education of preschool-aged children and infants within a child development program.

Key Responsibilities

1. Design and implement engaging activities and educational experiences; ensure a safe and developmentally suitable environment in both indoor and outdoor settings.

2. Lead the efforts of Associate Teachers and CDC Assistants, as well as students and volunteers assigned to the classroom.

3. Interact with children in a supportive and encouraging manner.

4. Develop age-appropriate lesson plans and activities that promote science, mathematics, music, art, language, social, emotional, and physical development; review plans created by Associate Teachers.

5. Conduct demonstrations and interactive learning sessions for children.

6. Serve as the primary caregiver for a designated group of children; perform initial and ongoing evaluations as required by state regulations; review similar work conducted by Associate Teachers.

7. Hold discussions with parents regarding their child's development, progress, and any concerns.

8. Create and implement strategies for conflict resolution and problem-solving among children.

9. Adhere to center policies and procedures, particularly those related to health and safety.

10. Provide guidance to employees, volunteers, students, and families regarding health, safety, and other policies.

11. Supervise groups of children during various activities; set up and take down playground equipment; ensure safe play environments.

12. Oversee restroom usage; assist with changing and laundering soiled clothing; support toilet training efforts.

13. Prepare and serve nutritious snacks and meals; assist in meal planning and preparation; supervise mealtimes.

14. Administer basic First Aid as necessary; promote healthy habits and safety practices.

15. Perform light cleaning tasks including dishwashing, clearing tables, sweeping, and waste disposal; maintain a clean and safe classroom environment.

16. Operate various classroom equipment including copiers, laminators, and kitchen appliances; ensure proper food storage and sanitation.

17. Identify special needs of children and families.

18. Encourage family involvement in classroom and center activities; promote participation in children's events.

19. Organize and facilitate parent engagement programs and events.

20. Maintain accurate records.

21. Oversee and assess laboratory students and their activities.

22. Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination equivalent to:

Associate's degree from an accredited institution in early childhood education or a related field, along with one year of experience in a structured environment working with children.

Possession of, or eligibility to obtain and maintain, a Child Development Teacher Permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Maintain satisfactory progress toward the completion of professional development requirements.

Completion of pediatric CPR and first aid training through an accredited program.

Possession of a current pediatric CPR and first aid certificate.

Satisfactory completion of a pre-employment physical assessment and drug testing.

Clear criminal record check including fingerprinting.

Knowledge and Abilities

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Early childhood education programs, practices, and techniques.
Current best practices for inclusive early childhood education settings.
Instructional techniques.
Requirements for maintaining a children's center in a safe and orderly condition.
Policies and objectives of assigned programs.
Interpersonal skills demonstrating tact and patience.
Health and safety regulations.
Principles of personal hygiene.
Sanitation practices for food handling.
Basic First Aid techniques.

ABILITY TO:

Plan and manage activities in a child development center.
Oversee the work of Associate Teachers, CDC Assistants, volunteers, and students.
Develop age-appropriate lesson plans.
Effectively conduct activities for children.
Monitor children's behavior and oversee activities.
Maintain a safe and clean children's center.
Apply principles of nutrition.
Administer basic First Aid.
Follow oral and written instructions.
Prepare and serve food in compliance with health regulations.
Communicate effectively in both oral and written forms.
Establish cooperative working relationships.
Observe health and safety regulations.

SALARY RANGE

$2, $4,122.12 monthly

Maximum Entry Level Salary: $3,065.02 monthly
