Job Summary:

The Patient Access Specialist plays a crucial role in the coordination and processing of patient medication orders and prior authorizations for the pharmacies of Upstate University Hospital. This position is responsible for ensuring the appropriateness and medical necessity of medication use based on established criteria, while also improving patient service experience and revenue capture for high-cost medications.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and process patient medication orders and prior authorizations
  • Review and evaluate take-home medications for appropriateness and medical necessity
  • Improve patient service experience and revenue capture for high-cost medications
  • Work independently and as part of a team to achieve goals and objectives
Requirements:
  • Associate's degree and three years of medical or pharmacy related experience, or Bachelor's degree and one year of experience
  • National Pharmacy Technician Certification within 18 months of hire
  • Excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal, organizational, conflict resolution, and computer skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Specialty Pharmacy Experience
  • NYS Licensed LPN
  • Medical Assistant Certification
Work Schedule:

Rotating schedule between 8am-9pm, weekends and holidays based on operational need
