We are seeking a highly skilled Patient Access Representative to join our team at St. Joseph's Hospital. As a key member of our revenue cycle team, you will play a critical role in ensuring accurate and timely patient registration and insurance verification.
Responsibilities- Acquire, enter, and update patient registration information into our Eclipsys system, verifying accuracy of data.
- Provide information related to billing, compliance, patient rights, and HIPAA.
- Verify patient insurance coverage and obtain authorizations for patient stays.
- Request and collect co-pays, deposits, and issue receipts at time of payment.
- Communicate with medical and clinical personnel regarding patient access, interfacility transfers, discharge processing, reimbursement issues, authorization requirements, surgical, and diagnostic orders.
- Accurately index patient information to HPR and interact with IS, HIM, ASR's to ensure optimal information flow and resolve inaccuracies and discrepancies.
- Intake MD requests for patient admission, coordinate assignment of patients to beds, and maintain accurate bed-board status.
- Perform other clerical tasks to support supervisor, including QA-related audits.
- Participate in the development of work schedules to accommodate patient flow and meet departmental needs.
- Two years of medical office or customer service experience.
- Participation in orientation, patient access training program, and continuing education.
- Updates and maintains knowledge and skills related to specific areas of expertise.
- Word processing skills, PC experience, basic mathematical skills, effective verbal and written communication, and human relations skills.
- Related experience in hospital registration, Eclipsys, or PHS/HPF and knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
Clinical Setting. Exposure Class I or II; service specific.
Physical DemandsSedentary work: standing, walking, and sitting for prolonged periods of time; repetitive motion of hands, fingers, and wrists.
