The Patient Access Specialist plays a crucial role in the coordination and processing of patient medication orders and prior authorizations for the pharmacies of Upstate University Hospital. This position is responsible for ensuring the completion of activities that maximize revenue capture for high-cost medications, reviewing and evaluating take-home medications for appropriateness and medical necessity, and improving patient service experience and retail pharmacy revenue through provision of prior authorization services at Upstate University Hospital clinics.
Key Responsibilities:- Coordinate and process patient medication orders and prior authorizations
- Review and evaluate take-home medications for appropriateness and medical necessity
- Improve patient service experience and retail pharmacy revenue through prior authorization services
- Work independently and as part of a team to achieve goals and objectives
- Associate's degree and three years of medical or pharmacy related experience, or Bachelor's degree and one year of medical or pharmacy related experience
- National Pharmacy Technician Certification within 18 months of hire
- Excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal, organizational, conflict resolution, and computer skills
- Specialty Pharmacy Experience
- NYS Licensed LPN
- Medical Assistant Certification
Rotating schedule between 8am-9pm, weekends, and holidays based on operational need
