Position Overview:

We are seeking a Principal / Sr Principal Engineering Design (Component Engineering SME) to contribute to our digital transformation initiatives. This role involves leveraging Model-based Engineering, DevSecOps, and Agile methodologies to enhance our delivery of critical national defense products and capabilities. The ideal candidate will embody collaboration, transparency, and a team-oriented approach, focusing on empowerment, shared accountability, flexibility, continuous learning, and a culture of automation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research and provide support to technical engineering personnel in the selection and qualification of electronic, electrical, and electromechanical components to ensure compliance with product specifications and reliability.
  • Manage and analyze Parts Material and Processes (PM&P) to support advanced strategic deterrence systems.
  • Analyze initial plans and implement Part and Material Management Plans (PMMP) to meet organizational, client, and regulatory objectives for product longevity.
  • Review engineering part selections for alignment with MIL-STD 11991A standards.
  • Assist design engineers in selecting components that conform to design specifications.
  • Recommend and assist in identifying sources of supply and develop alternative suppliers.
  • Oversee part management activities in accordance with the PM&P Management Plan.
  • Coordinate component review activities and manage part review production timelines.
  • Ensure accuracy of part numbers and descriptions, cross-referencing with manufacturers' part numbers.
  • Maintain and update part data within the product lifecycle management (PLM) system.
  • Review and address non-conforming components prior to board review as necessary.
  • Manage approved components for design, ensuring compliance with lifecycle status and qualification standards.
  • Lead and manage qualification testing evaluations for non-standard components.
  • Conduct fault analysis of components as required.
  • Develop material processes and control plans, including lead-free and hexavalent chromium management strategies.
  • Propose design or component selection modifications to enhance system reliability.
  • Support counterfeit parts prevention initiatives in line with SD-22, SAE-5553, and DFARS requirements.
  • Contribute to the management of Program Approved Parts Lists (PAPL) and Approved Vendor Lists (AVL).
  • Participate in Engineering Review Board (ERB), Change Control Board (CCB), Material Review Board (MRB), and Failure Review Board (FRB) as needed.
  • Provide design personnel with insights regarding cost, availability, and technical benefits of various component options.
  • Offer input on new designs to enhance product reliability.
  • Develop recommendations for process improvements to streamline part selection and review procedures.
  • Prepare materials for various programs and technical meetings.
  • Utilize strong communication skills while working with minimal supervision.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications for Principal Engineering Design (Component Engineering SME):

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related STEM field with 5 years of experience; or 3 years of relevant experience with a Master's degree; or no experience with a PhD.
  • Additional 4 years of relevant experience/education may substitute for a Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience in design, reliability, maintenance, or component engineering.
  • Familiarity with Agile frameworks (Kanban, Jira, Confluence, SharePoint).
  • Experience in electronic and/or mechanical component analysis and selection.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be able and willing to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOD Secret Clearance.

Basic Qualifications for Sr Principal Engineering Design (Component Engineering SME):

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related STEM field with 9 years of experience; or 7 years of relevant experience with a Master's degree; or 4 years with a PhD.
  • Additional 4 years of relevant experience/education may substitute for a Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience in design, reliability, maintenance, or component engineering.
  • Familiarity with Agile frameworks (Kanban, Jira, Confluence, SharePoint).
  • Experience in electronic and/or mechanical component analysis and selection.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be able and willing to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOD Secret Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in EEE domains (programmable logic, RF, power, radiation hardening, etc.).
  • Experience with SD-19, SD-22, and MIL STD 11991A.
  • Proficiency in IHS Part Intelligence, GIDEP, Part Finder, or similar tools.
  • Knowledge of FRACAS and reliability engineering.
  • Experience with DLA ASSIST and/or DLA Qualified Products Database (QPD/QPL).
  • Familiarity with CPLM, Teamcenter PLM.
  • Understanding of DFARS requirements for counterfeit components.

Compensation:

Salary range: $97,500 - $146,300 and $120,900 - $181,300, depending on experience and qualifications.
