About the Role:

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems stands as a reliable provider of mission-enabling solutions for global security. Our Engineering and Sciences (E&S) division is dedicated to pushing the limits of innovation, redefining engineering capabilities, and advancing various scientific fields. We are tasked with delivering the skills and innovative technologies necessary to develop, design, produce, and sustain optimized product lines across the sector, thereby providing a significant advantage to the warfighter.

We are seeking a Principal / Sr Principal Engineering Design (Component Engineering SME) to contribute to our enterprise-wide digital transformation. By leveraging Model-based Engineering, DevSecOps, and Agile methodologies, we are evolving our approach to delivering critical national defense products and capabilities. Success in this role hinges on adaptability, rapid response, and a commitment to continuous innovation. Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research and provide support to technical engineering personnel in the selection and qualification of electronic, electric, and electro-mechanical components to ensure compliance with product specifications and reliability.
  • Manage and analyze Parts Material and Processes (PM&P) to support next-generation systems.
  • Analyze preliminary plans and execute Part and Material Management Plans (PMMP) to meet objectives for product longevity.
  • Review engineering part selections for compliance with MIL-STD 11991A.
  • Recommend and assist in identifying sources of supply, developing alternatives as necessary.
  • Oversee part management activities in accordance with the PM&P Management Plan.
  • Coordinate component review activities and manage part review production velocity.
  • Ensure accuracy of part numbers and descriptions in alignment with manufacturers' specifications.
  • Update part data within the product lifecycle management (PLM) system.
  • Review and adjudicate non-conforming components as required.
  • Manage approved components for design, ensuring compliance with lifecycle status and qualification requirements.
  • Develop and oversee qualification testing evaluations for non-standard parts.
  • Conduct fault analysis of components as necessary.
  • Implement material processes and manage compliance with lead-free control plans and hexavalent chromium mitigation strategies.
  • Propose design or component selection changes to enhance system reliability.
  • Support counterfeit parts prevention initiatives in accordance with SD-22, SAE-5553, and DFARS requirements.
  • Contribute to various engineering boards and provide support to design personnel regarding component choices.
  • Prepare materials for technical meetings and utilize effective communication skills while working independently.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications for Principal Engineering Design:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related STEM field with 5 years of experience; or 3 years of relevant experience with a Master's degree; or 0 years of experience with a PhD.
  • 4 additional years of relevant experience may substitute for a Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience in design, reliability, or maintenance, or component engineering.
  • Familiarity with Agile frameworks (Kanban, Jira, Confluence, SharePoint).
  • Experience in electronic and/or mechanical component analysis and selection.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Willingness to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOD Secret Clearance.

Basic Qualifications for Sr Principal Engineering Design:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related STEM field with 9 years of experience; or 7 years of relevant experience with a Master's degree; or 4 years with a PhD.
  • 4 additional years of relevant experience may substitute for a Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience in design, reliability, or maintenance, or component engineering.
  • Familiarity with Agile frameworks (Kanban, Jira, Confluence, SharePoint).
  • Experience in electronic and/or mechanical component analysis and selection.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Willingness to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOD Secret Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with SD-19, SD-22, and MIL STD 11991A.
  • Proficiency in using IHS Part Intelligence, GIDEP, Part Finder, or equivalent tools.
  • Knowledge of FRACAS and reliability engineering.
  • Experience with DLA ASSIST and/or DLA Qualified Products Database.
  • Familiarity with CPLM and Teamcenter PLM.
  • Understanding of DFARS requirements for counterfeit components.

Compensation:

The salary range for this position is $97,500 - $146,300, with a potential for bonuses based on individual contributions and company performance. Northrop Grumman offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, life and disability insurance, savings plans, and paid time off.
