Position Overview

The role is situated within the Engineering Solutions Group at XP Power. The ideal candidate will take charge of designing tailored power delivery solutions, encompassing AC/DC, DC/DC, high power, low power, high voltage, and low voltage switch mode power supplies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design AC/DC and DC/DC switch mode power supplies utilizing diverse topologies.
  • Guide products from initial concept through to mass production, ensuring compliance with performance specifications, timelines, cost, and reliability targets.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams (including PCB layout, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Testing, and Quality Engineering) to ensure designs meet all Design for Excellence (DfX) criteria.
  • Select materials, components, and suppliers based on product performance specifications, reliability, and regulatory standards.
  • Lead research and development initiatives for new technologies.
  • Conduct cost analysis and generate cost estimates for new design concepts.
  • Engage with customers to gather project requirements and provide updates on design progress.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert during peer reviews, offering feedback and guidance as necessary.
  • Evaluate product designs for adherence to engineering principles, company protocols, safety standards, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Perform circuit simulations, Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), component stress assessments, reliability predictions, Design Verification Testing, and compile technical documentation.
  • Prepare documentation for product launches.
  • Assist the Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) team with root cause analysis.
  • Participate in the recruitment process.
  • Mentor junior engineers.
  • Fulfill additional duties and responsibilities as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with over 15 years of relevant experience; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • Extensive background in mixed-signal circuit design, simulations, and testing of power electronics.
  • Experience with magnetics and practical design of custom transformers and inductors.
  • Proficient in designing EMC filters to achieve regulatory compliance.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of power conversion principles, topologies, and technologies; experience with high voltage and RF is advantageous.
  • Thorough understanding of control theory.
  • Hands-on experience in design validation, including impedance and loop phase/gain measurements, precision noise measurement, and load transient response.
  • Strong understanding of business strategies and a high level of awareness regarding business processes.
  • Demonstrated project management experience and supervisory capabilities.
  • Ability to make economic assessments related to product costs and manufacturing processes.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and organizational skills.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical abilities.
  • Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
