Role Overview:
We are in search of a Principal / Sr Principal Engineering Design (Component Engineering SME) to contribute to our mission. In this role, you will be integral to our comprehensive digital transformation initiatives. By leveraging Model-based Engineering, DevSecOps, and Agile methodologies, we are redefining how we deliver critical national defense products and capabilities. Our achievements are rooted in our adaptability, speed, and relentless pursuit of innovation. Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct research and support technical engineering teams in the selection and qualification of electronic, electrical, and electromechanical components to ensure compliance with product specifications and reliability.
- Manage and analyze Parts Material and Processes (PM&P) to support next-generation systems.
- Analyze preliminary plans and execute Part and Material Management Plans (PMMP) to meet organizational and regulatory objectives for product longevity.
- Review engineering part selections for compliance with MIL-STD 11991A.
- Recommend and assist in sourcing suppliers and developing alternative supply sources.
- Perform part management activities in alignment with PM&P Management Plans.
- Coordinate component review activities and manage part review timelines.
- Ensure accuracy of part numbers and descriptions in relation to manufacturers' specifications.
- Update part data within the product lifecycle management (PLM) system.
- Review and resolve non-conforming components as necessary.
- Oversee approved components for design, ensuring lifecycle status and qualification standards are met.
- Develop and manage qualification testing for non-standard parts.
- Conduct fault analysis of components as required.
- Implement material processes and control plans according to program specifications.
- Propose design or component selection modifications to enhance system reliability.
- Support counterfeit parts prevention initiatives in accordance with relevant standards.
- Contribute to Engineering Review Boards, Change Control Boards, Material Review Boards, and Failure Review Boards as needed.
- Provide design teams with insights on cost, availability, and technical benefits of various component options.
- Offer recommendations for process improvements to streamline part selection and review procedures.
- Prepare materials for technical meetings and program discussions.
- Utilize strong communication skills while working independently.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications for Principal Engineering Design (Component Engineering SME):
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related STEM field with 5 years of experience; or 3 years of relevant experience with a Master's degree; or no experience with a PhD.
- 4 additional years of relevant experience may substitute for a Bachelor's degree.
- Experience in design, reliability, or maintenance engineering.
- Familiarity with Agile frameworks (e.g., Kanban, Jira, Confluence).
- Experience in electronic and/or mechanical component analysis and selection.
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
Basic Qualifications for Sr Principal Engineering Design (Component Engineering SME):
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related STEM field with 9 years of experience; or 7 years of relevant experience with a Master's degree; or 4 years with a PhD.
- 4 additional years of relevant experience may substitute for a Bachelor's degree.
- Experience in design, reliability, or maintenance engineering.
- Familiarity with Agile frameworks (e.g., Kanban, Jira, Confluence).
- Experience in electronic and/or mechanical component analysis and selection.
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with SD-19, SD-22, and MIL STD 11991A.
- Knowledge of IHS Part Intelligence, GIDEP, or equivalent tools.
- Familiarity with FRACAS and reliability engineering.
- Experience with DLA ASSIST and/or DLA Qualified Products Database.
- Experience with PLM systems like Teamcenter.
- Understanding of DFARS requirements for counterfeit components.
Compensation:
The salary range for this position is between $97,500 and $146,300, with a secondary range of $120,900 to $181,300. This range serves as a general guideline, as Northrop Grumman considers various factors when determining salary offers, including role responsibilities and candidate qualifications.
