Position Overview:
We are currently seeking a Principal / Senior Principal Engineering Design (Component Engineering Subject Matter Expert). This role is pivotal in our organization as we embark on a comprehensive digital transformation. Utilizing Model-based Engineering, DevSecOps, and Agile methodologies, we are redefining our approach to delivering critical national defense solutions. The ideal candidate will embody collaboration, transparency, and a team-oriented mindset, emphasizing empowerment, shared accountability, flexibility, continuous learning, and a culture of automation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct research and support technical engineering personnel in the selection and qualification of electronic, electrical, and electromechanical components to ensure compliance with product specifications and reliability.
- Manage and analyze Parts Material and Processes (PM&P) to support advanced strategic deterrence systems.
- Execute the Part and Material Management Plan (PMMP) to meet organizational, customer, and governmental objectives for product sustainability.
- Review engineering part selections for compliance with military standards.
- Recommend and assist in identifying suppliers and developing alternative sourcing strategies.
- Oversee part management activities in alignment with the PM&P Management Plan.
- Coordinate component review activities and manage production velocity for part reviews.
- Ensure accuracy of part numbers and descriptions in relation to manufacturers' specifications.
- Update part data within the product lifecycle management (PLM) system.
- Review and address non-conforming components as necessary.
- Manage approved components for design, ensuring lifecycle status and qualification criteria are met.
- Lead qualification testing evaluations for non-standard components.
- Propose design or component selection modifications to enhance system reliability.
- Support initiatives to prevent counterfeit parts in accordance with industry standards.
- Contribute to various engineering review boards as required.
- Provide design personnel with insights regarding cost, availability, and technical benefits of component options.
- Develop recommendations for process improvements to streamline part selection and review procedures.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications for Principal Engineering Design:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related STEM field with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree with 3 years of experience; or a PhD with no experience.
- 4 additional years of relevant experience may substitute for a Bachelor's degree.
- Experience in design, reliability, or maintenance within component engineering.
- Familiarity with Agile frameworks.
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
Basic Qualifications for Senior Principal Engineering Design:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related STEM field with a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree with 7 years of experience; or a PhD with 4 years of experience.
- 4 additional years of relevant experience may substitute for a Bachelor's degree.
- Experience in design, reliability, or maintenance within component engineering.
- Familiarity with Agile frameworks.
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with military standards and reliability engineering.
- Proficiency in using part intelligence tools and databases.
- Knowledge of DFARS requirements for counterfeit components.
