Position Overview

The Plasma Collection Specialist is accountable for the precise and prompt sampling, analysis, transportation, and preservation of plasma obtained from donors.

Key Responsibilities

1. Adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), responsible for the collection of plasma samples and transferring plasma units to the freezer to maintain product integrity.

2. Ensures that plasma units are stored correctly in accordance with SOPs, which may include unsuitable plasma units and samples.

3. Verifies the accuracy of unit labeling by confirming that the pre-printed label corresponds with the dynamic label.

4. Employs sterile techniques to collect samples and utilizes a heat sealer to guarantee the sterility and quality of plasma unit samples as per SOPs.

5. May oversee the packing and shipping of samples and units in compliance with SOPs and center protocols. Prepares necessary shipping and unit disposal documentation.

6. Monitors freezer and refrigerator temperatures, promptly notifying relevant personnel if equipment malfunctions. Records any discrepancies.

7. Conducts daily calibration of equipment in accordance with SOPs.

8. Ensures accurate documentation of donor information in the electronic donor information management system as specified in the SOPs.

9. Familiarizes with the policies and procedures related to hyper immune programs at the center, if applicable.

10. Maintains a clean and efficient workspace, ensuring that adequate operating supplies and forms are available as needed. Adheres to all Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations. Promotes safety in all activities.

11. Upholds confidentiality regarding all personnel, donor, and center information.

12. May receive cross-training in other areas to fulfill business needs.

13. Bilingual skills may be necessary, at the organization's discretion, to meet business requirements.

14. Performs additional job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications


• High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Experience


• A minimum of three (3) months of experience in a laboratory or warehouse setting is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


• Basic math skills are essential.

Working Environment

• Ability to comprehend, retain, and apply oral and/or written instructions.


• Capability to follow basic instructions and guidelines.


• Must be able to interact with customers and observe equipment operations.


• Occasionally required to perform tasks while standing and walking for up to 100% of the time.


• Requires reaching, bending, kneeling, and possessing a high level of manual dexterity.


• Occasionally required to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.


• Fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.


• Regular exposure to hazardous chemicals, extreme temperatures, and blood-borne pathogens.


• Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment while performing specific tasks or in designated areas.


• May need to work overtime and extended hours to support operational needs.
