Job Title: Accounting Manager

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to join our team at Credit Union Texas. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with daily, monthly, and quarterly accounting reporting activities, improving related processes and efficiencies, and ensuring accounting activities are carried out in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with training staff and senior staff accountants in their daily, monthly, and quarterly duties and serve as backup when needed.
  • Document procedures as needed.
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly financial reports, board reports, ALM reports, and variance analysis.
  • Assist with the preparation of the Quarterly 5300 Call Report.
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual audited financial statements, budget, and tax returns.
  • Assist in preparation of schedules for external auditors and examiners.
  • Assist with preparing and posting GL entries.
  • Assist with performing and reviewing daily/monthly reconciliations of assigned general ledger account reconciliations.
  • Special projects and other duties as directed by the Controller or CAO.
Requirements:
  • Excellent knowledge of credit union policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, regulatory accounting, and state and federal regulations.
  • Strong background in finance and accounting.
  • Good organizational and administrative skills.
  • Ability to identify problems and provide solutions.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, accept responsibilities, and make decisions.
  • Ability to lead and coordinate activities for the department or a project team.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to effectively utilize new software programs to perform routine tasks.
  • Ability to operate software specific to the credit union's accounting system and member account information.
  • Proven experience working with spreadsheet and data with an intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel.
  • Good judgment and discretion when dealing with sensitive topics.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in finance/accounting from four-year college or university.
  • CPA or potential CPA candidate is preferred.
  • Minimum of two years related experience in a credit union or other financial institution.
Working Conditions:

The employee will frequently talk or hear, sit, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands or arms. The employee will occasionally stand and walk, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee will occasionally lift and move up to 10 pounds.

  • Detailed: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Mathematical Ability: The level of ability required to perform math skills and operations.
  • Advanced: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Language Ability: The level of ability required to communicate and understand written and oral language.
  • Typical: Ability to use passive vocabulary of 7,000-9,000 words; read at a fast-paced rate; and define unfamiliar words in dictionaries for meaning, spelling, and pronunciation. Ability to write moderate to complex documents. Ability to communicate in complex sentences, using normal word order with present and past tenses and strong vocabulary. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
