Job Summary

The State of Connecticut is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to serve as the Chief Equity and Opportunity Officer. This executive-level role will be responsible for leading the Office of Equity and Opportunity, which aims to create a fair, equitable, and inclusive environment throughout state government.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive diversity, equity, and inclusion strategy to address historical and ongoing disparities in state government.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of current and proposed policies and practices to identify areas where disparities exist and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Collaborate with state agencies to ensure that services and resources are available and accessible to all residents of Connecticut.
  • Develop and implement equity-oriented systems, policies, and procedures to operationalize diversity, equity, and inclusion within state agencies.
  • Identify and develop diversity, equity, and inclusion training opportunities for all state employees.
  • Develop statewide diversity, equity, and inclusion benchmarks and measures of progress.
  • Oversee and provide guidance to state agencies on how to engage and incorporate the perspectives of underserved communities.
  • Partner with state agencies to ensure that communications with residents are culturally and linguistically appropriate and accessible.
Requirements
  • Experience in an executive-level leadership position within a highly matrixed enterprise.
  • Experience developing strategies and standards for diversity and inclusion.
  • Experience conducting comprehensive assessments of current and proposed business policies and practices to identify and mitigate areas where disparities exist.
  • Experience in strategic communications planning, equity in health promotion, social marketing, and behavior change communication.
  • Experience developing and managing operational budgets.
  • Bachelor's degree, Master's preferred in law, public administration, social work, diversity and inclusion leadership, psychology, or business.
