About the Role

The DCO Energy team is seeking an experienced Executive Director of Energy Operations to oversee the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of our District Energy Facilities. As a key member of our management team, you will be responsible for leading a team of plant supervisors, maintenance, safety, and operations staff to achieve optimal operational, safety, departmental, and budget goals and performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the District Energy Facilities, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and company policies.
  • Promote and enforce all company policies and procedures, maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Manage environmental, safety, and regulatory compliance of the district energy facilities, ensuring adherence to all relevant laws and regulations.
  • Manage relationships with collective bargaining units, including negotiating collective bargaining agreements, addressing employee issues, grievances, and disciplines while adhering to the CBA.
  • Responsible for achieving defined company financial and operational goals and results, including managing budgets and resources.
  • Direct supervisors, operations staff, and maintenance staff to achieve compliance with Key Performance Indicators, ensuring optimal operational performance.
  • Manage and direct staff to provide customers with a continuous reliable supply of energy, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Work with executive management, marketing, and sales to resolve customer use issues or district energy service issues, ensuring prompt and effective resolution.
  • Develop processes and procedures to maintain accurate and complete operational records, assure operational consistency, safety, and efficiency.
  • Manage and direct staff to meet annual operations and capital budgets, ensuring effective resource allocation.
  • Oversee maintenance and capital project schedules to achieve annual goals, ensuring timely completion and effective resource allocation.
  • Work with and direct supervisors to use computerized maintenance systems to achieve acceptable completion levels for preventative and corrective maintenance goals and review monthly progress.
  • Manage the development of employees through training, coaching, and discipline to allow them to perform tasks safely and independently as well as advance in position and license status.
  • Oversee selection and hiring of management, operations, and maintenance personnel, ensuring effective recruitment and talent management.
  • Develop fuel supply models, operating models, and maintenance models for each HSC operating facility, ensuring optimal operational performance.
  • Oversee and assist in negotiation of project contracts, ensuring effective contract management.
  • Direct and ensure regulatory compliance of facilities and activities, ensuring adherence to all relevant laws and regulations.
  • Embody and clearly demonstrate the Core Values of Safety and Environment, Accountability, Integrity, and Teamwork, ensuring a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • Ensure the safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant operation of the plant, including operating within approved permit requirements.
  • Manage the development of employees through training, coaching, and discipline to allow them to perform tasks safely and independently as well as advance in position and license status.
  • Oversee proper maintenance of records, including operational logs, environmental incidents, disciplinary and personnel actions, payroll, OSHA reports, training records, and lockout/tagout paperwork.
  • Exhibit professionalism at all times when dealing with employees, managers, outside contractors/vendors, and Union officials.
