About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Packaging Engineer II to join our team at Medtronic. As a key member of our packaging team, you will be responsible for designing and developing new package systems for sterile medical devices, ensuring that they meet or exceed requirements for end-user functionality, safety, manufacturability, sustainability, and business objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify and prioritize opportunities to create significant end-user, patient, and business value through packaging and drive implementation of those opportunities.
  • Design, develop, and test a wide variety of containers used for the protection, display, and handling of products.
  • Determine packaging specifications according to the nature of the product, cost limitations, legal requirements, and the type of protection required.
  • Design package exteriors considering factors such as product identification, sales appeal, aesthetic quality, printing, and production techniques.
  • Develop and implement designs and processes that optimize manufacturability and barrier performance while lowering cost and risk.
  • Develop package concepts, create prototypes, plan, and execute feasibility and design characterization studies.
  • Utilize knowledge of FDA, ISO, and EN requirements related to packaging and labeling.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Biomedical Science, Packaging, or a Technical field.
  • Minimum of 2+ years of relevant work experience in Medical device packaging, R&D, manufacturing, or field technical support.
  • Familiarity with FDA and EU quality assurance requirements for design and manufacturing.
  • Ability to travel up to 15%, both domestic and international.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2-3 years' experience with mechanical design (SolidWorks, PTC, or other), statistical analysis (MatLab, MiniTab, or other).
  • Knowledgeable in ISO, ASTM, ISTA standards and test methods related to packaging.
  • Experience with terminally sterilized package design, materials, sealing methods, operating room procedures, and sterilization methods.
  • Solid proficiency in MS applications.
  • 2-3 years' experience with trans-catheter therapies and related devices.
  • Experience with Design for Lean Sigma (DFLS), Design for Manufacturability (DFM), process development, and design of experiments (DOE) methodology.
  • Experience with Design Verification and Process Validation.
  • Use of FEA and prototyping techniques.
  • Certified Packaging Professional (CPP) preferred.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

Salary ranges for U.S. (excl. PR) locations (USD): $88,000.00 - $132,000.00.

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).
