Established in 1876, The Boys' Club of New York (BCNY) has been dedicated to supporting the growth and development of boys and young men through various after-school, weekend, and summer programs. Our facilities in East Harlem and Flushing, along with our wilderness camp, provide a diverse range of activities, from swimming and robotics to cultural outings. BCNY is committed to offering free, high-quality programs that create safe spaces for youth to connect, have fun, and form lasting friendships. We are expanding our reach to the Bronx and Brooklyn, ensuring that our youth-centered approach is accessible to all members of the community.

Role Summary

As a proactive organization in response to COVID-19, we prioritize the safety of our members and staff. The Group Leader plays a crucial role in overseeing the well-being and engagement of youth participants, ensuring a stimulating and secure environment. This position involves building positive relationships with members through interactive program activities and managing program assistants and volunteers effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate daily activities for a group of 10-21 boys aged 7-11 years.
  • Design and implement age-appropriate curricula, activities, and games.
  • Provide guidance and support, addressing behavioral challenges as needed.
  • Engage in both indoor and outdoor activities with the group.
  • Assist with the setup and cleanup of daily activities and transportation logistics.
  • Maintain the organization and care of materials and report any issues to the Program Director.
  • Utilize behavior management techniques to address inappropriate conduct and communicate incidents with relevant staff.
  • Participate in mandatory professional development training sessions.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Experience in youth development, education, or after-school programming.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Well-organized, capable of working independently and as part of a team.
  • Preferred: Associate's or Bachelor's degree.
  • First Aid and CPR certification is a plus.
