Established in 1876, The Boys' Club of New York (BCNY) has been dedicated to supporting the growth and development of boys and young men through a variety of enriching after-school, weekend, and summer programs. Our facilities in East Harlem and Flushing, along with our wilderness camp, provide a wide range of activities designed to foster interests and skills in a safe and engaging environment. With a commitment to addressing the needs of youth affected by the shelter and homelessness crisis in New York City, BCNY aims to provide equitable access to high-quality programs that create supportive spaces for connection and friendship.
Role Summary
As a proactive organization in response to COVID-19, we prioritize the safety of our members and staff. The Group Leader plays a crucial role in overseeing the safety and engagement of youth participants, ensuring a stimulating and supportive experience. This position involves building positive relationships with members and guiding program assistants and volunteers.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and coordinate daily activities for a group of 10-21 boys aged 7-11 years.
- Design, implement, and lead age-appropriate curricula, activities, and games.
- Provide guidance and support, addressing behavioral challenges as necessary.
- Engage in both indoor and outdoor activities.
- Assist with the setup and cleanup of daily activities and transportation logistics.
- Maintain care of materials and report any damages to the Program Director.
- Utilize behavior management techniques to address and resolve inappropriate behavior.
- Participate in required professional development training sessions.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Experience in youth development, education, or after-school programming.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Able to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Well-organized and capable of working independently as well as part of a team.
- Preferred: Associate's or Bachelor's degree.
- First Aid and CPR certification is a plus.
