From sports to technology and cultural outings, BCNY's offerings are designed to cultivate interests and skills, all at no cost to members and their families. In response to the growing challenges faced by youth in New York City, particularly those affected by homelessness, BCNY is committed to enhancing access to high-quality programs that create safe spaces for boys and young men to connect, enjoy themselves, and build lasting friendships.

Position Summary

As a proactive organization, BCNY adheres to health and safety guidelines to ensure the well-being of our members and staff. Reporting to the Education Director, the Education Coordinator will be instrumental in developing and implementing programs focused on academic support, including Homework Help, High School Access, and College Access initiatives. The ideal candidate will be a dependable and motivated individual with a proven track record of engaging with teens and young adults.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the Homework Help Study Hall program, while assisting with other educational initiatives as required.
  • Monitor and assess members' academic progress and attendance through evaluations and regular reports.
  • Provide direct engagement with members through tutoring, small-group sessions, and various educational activities.
  • Contribute to the development and assessment of programs, workshops, and community outreach efforts.
  • Encourage positive behavior among students and enforce clubhouse guidelines, addressing any behavioral issues as necessary.
  • Organize and maintain the Library and Learning Center.
  • Prepare educational materials and curriculum resources as needed.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and collaborative discussions.
  • Maintain open communication with the Education Director regarding program developments and any concerns.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or a related field.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in tutoring or classroom instruction.
  • Experience working with students aged 6-18.
  • Familiarity with NYC educational standards is preferred.
  • Knowledge of core academic subjects, including Math, English, Science, and History.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and meet the diverse needs of students.
