Position Summary

The Platform Engineering Manager will oversee a team of platform and security engineers, driving the enhancement of Amadeus's cloud platform on Azure. This platform serves as the backbone for engineering and product teams, enabling the delivery of advanced capabilities to our clients. This dynamic position necessitates effective communication, teamwork, and direct engagement with the cloud platform, ensuring adherence to Amadeus standards for reliability, scalability, and security. Success in this role will be evaluated based on the empowerment of engineering teams through automation, governance, and continuous improvement within the cloud infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Team Management

Develop, mentor, and lead a team of platform and security engineers. Establish clear objectives and expectations, providing ongoing feedback and performance assessments. Cultivate a collaborative and inclusive team culture, encouraging knowledge sharing and professional growth. Collaborate closely with leaders of value delivery teams.

Platform Engineering Oversight

Guide the evolution of Amadeus's Azure cloud platform to support the growth and transformation of our solution offerings. Ensure high availability and reliability of the cloud infrastructure by defining Service Level Objectives (SLOs) and Service Level Indicators (SLIs) for platform capabilities. Act as a primary contact for platform-related challenges, offering expert guidance and support as needed. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers, architects, and product managers, to align platform capabilities with business requirements. Advocate for automation through Infrastructure as Code (IaC) templates for the automated provisioning of platform resources, utilizing tools such as Azure Resource Manager (ARM), Terraform, and Ansible. Optimize Azure costs while providing transparency to teams regarding platform expenses. Facilitate self-service access to platform capabilities to accelerate innovation. Partner with the Amadeus cybersecurity team to identify security needs, conduct assessments, and ensure that vulnerability scans and penetration tests are performed as necessary. Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations (e.g., ISO, GDPR, HIPAA). Support security incident response protocols within the organization. Provide the necessary knowledge for installing, configuring, monitoring, and managing the Azure platform to support teams.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline; a Master's degree is advantageous. Over 4 years of experience with cloud platforms and participation in platform engineering teams. More than 3 years of leadership or management experience, ideally in a technical context. At least 2 years of experience with CI/CD tools and methodologies (e.g., Azure Pipelines, Jenkins). Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal abilities. Proficient knowledge of container-based infrastructure on Azure (e.g., containerD/Docker, Kubernetes, AKS, OpenShift). Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform and ARM templates, along with familiarity with CI/CD practices. Understanding of networking, security, and identity management in cloud environments. Comprehensive knowledge of cloud security best practices and frameworks. Experience with security assessment tools and methodologies. Familiarity with compliance standards and regulatory requirements. Proficient in programming languages such as C#/.NET and Java. Skilled in scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, or JavaScript. A strong desire to learn, share knowledge, and collaborate.

Preferred Qualifications

Azure certifications (e.g., Azure Fundamentals, Azure DevOps Engineer). Experience with alternative cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud). Familiarity with Agile methodologies and practices. Experience in the travel industry is a plus. Knowledge of observability practices and tools, such as OpenTelemetry standards, Splunk, Grafana, and Prometheus.
