Engages in advanced and intricate transportation engineering tasks across various functional domains including planning, project development, design, construction, and transportation/traffic operations.

Ensures adherence to relevant federal and state regulations, policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines. This role necessitates interaction with governmental representatives and private sector stakeholders. Employees in this position operate with a high degree of autonomy and take full responsibility for their work outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:
Transportation Engineer I
- Evaluates and endorses modifications to highway maintenance agreements.
- Addresses technical and policy inquiries related to bridge inspections and maintains inspection records; analyzes data and provides summaries.
- Aids in supervising construction project traffic management plans; periodically assesses traffic control devices with Area Engineers.

- Assists in the oversight of contracts, issuing work orders, and tracking construction timelines, contractor payments, and project progress.


- Aids in the formulation, preparation, and execution of maintenance contracts for the district.
- Supports design efforts, computer operations, and plan development.
- Creates and reviews engineering-related documents, correspondence, reports, and remediation strategies.
- Travels to project sites for on-site engineering evaluations, analyses, and technical support.
- May act as a lead worker and undertake related tasks.
- Reviews change orders, supplemental agreements, memorandum agreements, and extra work orders; assesses monthly and final estimates prior to submission.
- Reviews shop drawings, plans, specifications, estimates, supplemental agreements, and change order requests.
- Performs additional job responsibilities as assigned.

Transportation Engineer II
In addition to the responsibilities listed above:
- Assists Area Engineers with construction contract management.
- Oversees construction and audit documentation.
- Manages contracts, issues work orders, and monitors construction timelines, contractor payments, and project progress.
- Coordinates maintenance issues with Area Engineers.
- Interprets the Utility Accommodation Policy.
- Ensures contractors' compliance with plans and specifications.

- Reviews, coordinates, monitors, and approves routine and emergency maintenance contracts; oversees maintenance specifications writing/review, plans, proposals, and estimate preparation for letting.


Transportation Engineer III
In addition to the responsibilities listed above:
- Mediates disputes between contractors and inspectors.
- Develops and reviews engineering-related documents, correspondence, reports, and remediation strategies.

Transportation Engineer IV
In addition to the responsibilities listed above:
- Analyzes and assists in resolving contract issues and disputes.
- Coordinates and monitors consultant contracts related to projects.

- Evaluates contract performance, assesses deliverables, reviews billing documentation, ensures compliance with contract terms, and prepares written evaluations of consultant performance.


- Recommends practices and procedures for Critical Path Method scheduling, project modifications, budgeting, resource allocation, and baseline management.

- Investigates and addresses public concerns regarding traffic signals, signage, railroad crossings, pavement markings, traffic management systems, or other traffic-related matters.


- Provides training to engineering personnel.
