Job Title: Specimen Processing Technician

Contract Duration: 4 Months

Shift: 3rd Shift | 8 pm - 5:30 am

Position Overview:

The Specimen Processing Technician plays a crucial role in supporting the Technical Operations Department by performing essential pre-analytical tasks.

  • Demonstrates a capacity to master the responsibilities assigned to the role, gaining insight into the interconnected functions of Technical Operations and Specimen Processing.
  • Identifies and addresses issues related to specimen types and documentation, ensuring efficient sorting, racking, centrifugation, delivery, and storage.
  • Understands compliance policies associated with test ordering, enhancing the ability to research necessary information.
  • Achieves quality and productivity benchmarks within a specified training period.
  • Completes all necessary documentation accurately and within the designated time frame.
  • Adheres to attendance guidelines and supports departmental performance during coworker absences.
  • Acquires knowledge of additional functions within Technical Operations to facilitate career advancement.
  • Performs other assigned duties as required.

  • Possesses a willingness to adjust work schedules as needed.

Qualifications:

Essential Requirements:

  • Basic data entry skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities.
  • Knowledge of specimen types relevant to ordered tests.
  • Understanding of clinical requirements regarding specimen handling and delivery.
  • Awareness of compliance regulations related to test ordering.
  • Openness to change and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Dedication to meeting internal and external customer needs.
  • Willingness to support departmental staffing needs during weekends, holidays, and overtime.
  • Tasks must be executed with confidence, accuracy, and timeliness.
  • Proficiency in manual tasks including sorting, racking, specimen pickup and delivery, storage, centrifugation, and aliquoting.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A High School Diploma or GED.
  • A medical background is preferred, including familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Previous experience in a production setting is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with mainframe computer systems is preferred.
