Position Overview:
The Laboratory Specimen Processing Technician plays a crucial role in supporting the Technical Operations Department by performing various pre-analytical tasks.
- Demonstrates a commitment to learning the responsibilities associated with the role and develops a comprehensive understanding of the interrelated functions within Technical Operations and Specimen Processing.
- Identifies and addresses issues related to specimen types and missing information, ensuring efficient sorting, racking, centrifuging, delivery, and storage of specimens.
- Understands compliance policies related to test ordering and develops the ability to research test order information effectively.
- Achieves quality and production standards within a designated training period.
- Completes all necessary documentation clearly and legibly within specified time frames.
- Adheres to attendance guidelines and supports departmental performance during coworker absences.
- Acquires knowledge of additional functions within Technical Operations and Specimen Processing to facilitate career advancement.
- Performs other assigned duties as required.

Qualifications:
Essential Requirements:
- Basic data entry skills.

- Knowledge of specimen types related to various tests.
- Awareness of clinical department requirements concerning specimen types and quantities.
- Understanding of compliance regulations related to test ordering.
- Willingness to adapt to changes and pursue continuous improvement.

- Ability to contribute positively to a team-oriented environment.
- Confidence and accuracy in performing tasks related to specimen handling.
- Proficiency in essential manual functions, including sorting, racking, and specimen delivery.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A High School Diploma or GED.
- A medical background, preferably with knowledge of medical terminology relevant to clinical laboratories.
- Experience in a production environment is advantageous.
- Familiarity with mainframe computer systems is preferred.
