Position Summary

We are seeking a dedicated Full-Time Exhibits Support Technician to join our Exhibitions Department. This role is essential in assisting with the preparation, construction, installation, and removal of both indoor and outdoor art displays. The technician will focus on creating mounts and showcases for various artworks while ensuring meticulous attention to detail and quality in execution. The position operates within a dynamic, fast-paced environment that values creativity and precision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the packing, crating, and transportation of artworks and associated materials.
  • Collaborate with team members, volunteers, and contractors for the installation and removal of artworks in diverse settings.
  • Contribute to exhibition layout by measuring artworks and planned placements.
  • Assist in the fabrication of custom mounts, pedestals, crates, and temporary structures for exhibitions.
  • Work closely with the Exhibitions team to ensure all fabricated elements meet design specifications and budgetary constraints.
  • Handle and transport artworks with care, considering their unique requirements.
  • Support outdoor artwork assessments, lighting arrangements, and signage installations.
  • Assist with the framing and matting of artworks as needed.
  • Participate in the ongoing maintenance and upkeep of exhibitions.
  • Foster positive working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Exhibit a positive and solution-oriented attitude when interacting with visitors.
  • Regular attendance is required, with minimal remote work options available.
  • Commitment to the mission of connecting people with plants is essential.

Qualifications

  • Proficient in reading technical drawings and executing fabrication tasks with precision.
  • Skilled in using hand tools and taking accurate measurements.
  • Familiarity with materials such as wood, metal, and plastics.
  • Experience operating shop tools including saws and other equipment.
  • Physical capability to lift materials up to 80 pounds and perform tasks requiring bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
  • Experience in art handling and familiarity with 3D design software is advantageous.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills are required.
  • Ability to maintain composure under pressure and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Willingness to work overtime as necessary.
  • Commitment to safety and collaboration with team members.
  • Experience operating equipment such as pallet jacks is preferred.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED is required; a bachelor's degree is preferred. Current students pursuing degrees in art or museum studies are encouraged to apply.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in carpentry or fabrication is required.
  • Experience in an art museum or similar environment is a plus.
  • A valid driver's license is necessary, with the ability to operate larger vehicles preferred.

Travel Requirements

Some travel may be required, with the ability to work in varying environments.
