General Purpose

This role is essential in the planning and execution of transmission projects that ensure the reliability and efficiency of the transmission system to meet customer demands. The position employs engineering methodologies to ensure adherence to NERC/WECC Reliability Standards. Responsibilities include the development of engineering studies, plans, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, and performance assessments related to the planning, design, licensing, construction, operation, and maintenance of the Company's generation and transmission facilities.

Key Responsibilities


• Design, develop, modify, and assess transmission systems, processes, or facilities to align with Company goals, employing engineering methods to ensure compliance with NERC/WECC reliability standards.

• Create moderately complex engineering studies, plans, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, and performance assessments.

• Identify methods and techniques for achieving results.

• Propose alternative engineering solutions to management to fulfill business requirements.

• Ensure commitments are met and assist in managing external engineering services to complete assigned tasks.

• Maintain project schedules and budgets.

• Engage in the development of new WECC/NERC standards to promote the successful implementation of clear and concise standards that enhance the reliability of the electric system.


In addition, the responsibilities of the SR./ Principal Transmission Planning Engineer position include:

• Collaborating with neighboring utilities on planning studies for interconnected transmission and generation facilities.

• Preparing annual screening studies for NERC compliance.

• Conducting main grid power flow stability studies.

Requirements


• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.

• Strong project management and leadership skills, including the ability to work collaboratively, maintain project timelines, budgets, and fulfill commitments.

• Knowledge of relevant federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and the National Electric Codes.

• Ability to perform effectively under pressure while maintaining focus and composure.

• Excellent communication (written, verbal, and presentation) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally to understand requirements and present alternatives and recommendations.

• Proficient in using personal computers and automated tools, including power flow and dynamic analysis software, database management (PI), Visio, and Microsoft Office Suite, including Access, as well as EMS or SCADA systems.


For the Transmission Planning Engineer II position, the following experience is required:

• A minimum of two years of relevant experience in transmission modeling, transmission system engineering, and/or transmission system planning.
For the SR. Transmission Planning Engineer II position, the following experience is required:

• A minimum of eight years of relevant experience in transmission modeling, transmission system engineering, and/or transmission system planning.

• An advanced technical degree or professional engineer (PE) certification is required.


For the Principal Transmission Planning Engineer II position, the following experience is required:

• A minimum of fifteen years of relevant experience in transmission system modeling, transmission system engineering, and/or transmission system planning.

Preferences


• Power Option (particularly Power System Analysis)

• Advanced Degree

This position is eligible for an annual discretionary performance incentive bonus of up to 12.00% of salary.
