Position Overview

We are in search of a Chief Legal Officer who will act as the primary legal advisor for our organization, ensuring the safeguarding of our legal interests and adherence to relevant federal, state, and local regulations. This role includes overseeing the legal team and serving as the Corporate Secretary, while also managing the operations of the executive committee and board of directors.

Employment Type: Full-time
Work Arrangement: Hybrid (3 days onsite)

Qualifications Required:
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited institution.
- Licensed to practice law.
- Minimum of 12 years of legal experience.
- At least 8 years in advocacy or a related field.
- Proven expertise in the chemical sector or a similar industry.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with federal agencies, particularly the EPA.
- Fundamental understanding of environmental, health, and safety (EHS) regulations.
- Experience in board governance.
- Background in trade associations.

Key Responsibilities:
- Formulate and implement legal strategies, including both proactive and defensive litigation, while collaborating with technical and policy teams to influence regulations and legislation affecting the chemical industry.
- Assess and manage legal risks, ensuring compliance with political and lobbying regulations, and oversee contracts with external entities.
- Supervise corporate governance practices, including board processes, and serve as the Corporate Secretary.
- Participate as a key member of the senior management team, ensuring alignment with various departments.
- Ensure organizational compliance with all applicable laws, including antitrust regulations.
- Act as the Chief Compliance Officer, overseeing the ethics and conduct program.
- Manage the selection and performance of external legal counsel.
- Lead the legal services department, setting performance goals, conducting evaluations, and promoting professional development for team members.
- Direct the creation of the annual legal operational budget.
