Key Responsibilities

Main Purpose of the Role
The Senior Manager, External Financial Reporting will collaborate with the finance and accounting teams on specialized Group activities, focusing on External Reporting, Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, and technical accounting. This pivotal role within the Finance organization ensures that external deliverables are met for SEC reporting and UK statutory accounting compliance, particularly in a rapidly evolving US-listed organization with obligations in the UK.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • External Reporting: Collaborate with the Director of Finance to oversee the Group's quarterly and annual financial reporting to the SEC, ensuring timely submissions and coordination across various teams within Finance and the broader business.
  • Manage the consolidated plc accounts filed at Companies House and the subsidiary external financial reporting under IFRS.
  • Work with the Director of Finance and the business to assess the implications of new external financial reporting requirements as the Group expands its operations.
  • Formulate disclosures for all external financial reports, ensuring accurate representation of the Group's activities in compliance with accounting standards and regulations.

Technical Accounting:
Review and assess updates to US GAAP and IFRS accounting standards that may affect the Group, ensuring all external financial reports are technically sound and that new standards are adopted appropriately.

Sarbanes-Oxley Compliance:
Collaborate with the Director of Finance and third-party SOX providers to identify necessary changes in internal controls, ensuring compliance for auditor certification. This includes understanding processes and identifying risks that require mitigating controls.

Oversee the implementation of identified changes and work with various departments to devise and implement solutions. Additionally, review the overall internal control framework to identify risks and opportunities for simplification.

Team Leadership

Provide oversight and development for the Manager of External Reporting and SOX, including reviewing work, coaching, and providing constructive feedback.

Experience & Knowledge Required

Essential:

  • Extensive technical accounting experience in both IFRS and US GAAP.
  • Experience with SEC reporting, including drafting SEC-compliant disclosures.
  • Background in international companies, preferably with a US presence.
  • Proven ability to drive change in a dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated credibility with management and external stakeholders.
  • Experience in managing internal controls within a SOX framework.
  • Professional accounting qualification (ACA/ACCA/CIMA/CPA) is essential.

Desirable:

  • Experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology sectors.
  • Familiarity with UK statutory filings.
