For over two decades, the SCA Adirondack Corps has played a crucial role in safeguarding the natural beauty of the Adirondack Park. This program empowers young individuals to step into the role of future conservation leaders.

Supported by a collaboration between the SCA, AmeriCorps, and the New York State DEC, the program enables young adults to engage in hands-on conservation projects that serve their community.

In addition to the immediate advantages of these projects, the Adirondack Corps program provides participants with essential skills for their future careers in conservation.

Through recognized training and practical experience in remote settings, participants acquire knowledge in areas such as trail construction, invasive species management, and project leadership.

The SCA Adirondack Corps is more than just a conservation initiative; it represents a commitment to the future. By fostering the next generation of conservation leaders, the program ensures the ongoing health and beauty of the Adirondack Park for years to come.


Role Summary:

The Program Coordinator is a dynamic and integral position, vital for the effective operation of the Adirondack Corps' summer program.

This role involves leading the recruitment process, ensuring the safety and compliance of all participants, and serving as the central figure that connects the program's various components.

The Coordinator is responsible for the careful planning and execution of member orientations, managing program facilities and logistical requirements, and overseeing daily activities.

Additionally, this position is key in implementing risk management protocols, responding to incidents, and developing performance plans, all while maintaining a focus on the program's logistical needs.

This role is not solely about resource management; it also emphasizes the growth and development of our AmeriCorps members, making it a fulfilling experience.


Key Responsibilities:

Program Management:
- Lead recruitment and onboarding for summer and winter crews.
- Organize and conduct orientations for new crew members.
- Supervise Corps members daily alongside the Program Field Specialist.
- Uphold safety standards and coordinate with Risk Management.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies.
- Evaluate members at mid-season and end of the program year.
- Oversee operations of residential facilities, ensuring necessary supplies are available.
- Manage inventory and budgeting for food, equipment, and facility supplies.
- Monitor the status and needs of the program vehicle fleet.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Program Manager.

Program Development:
- Continuously enhance relevant skills and certifications.
- Exemplify organizational mission and values to members and partners.
- Promote leadership development within the team.
- Foster an inclusive community in alignment with organizational values.
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities.
- Assist in recruiting and training diverse members.
- Facilitate programs that support social and emotional development among Corps members.
- Help build relationships with local community organizations and land partners.

Qualifications:
- Strong communication skills required.
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record necessary.
- 1-2 years of relevant experience preferred.
- Minimum age of 21 years.
- Proven organizational and program development skills.
- Ability to reside on-site for extended periods during peak seasons.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.
- Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in trail construction and maintenance is advantageous.
- Prior experience supervising young adults in outdoor settings is preferred.
- Familiarity with Salesforce Lightning is a plus.
- Community organizing skills and teamwork capability are essential.
- Wilderness First Responder or higher/CPR certification preferred.
- Experience managing AmeriCorps members is beneficial.
- Strong organizational skills for managing supplies and materials.

Housing:
Optional housing is available on-site. The Program Coordinator has the opportunity to reside year-round in staff accommodations. These accommodations include multiple bedrooms, bathrooms, a full kitchen, and spacious living areas, shared seasonally with crew leaders.
