POSITION SUMMARY

Each year, numerous refugees and immigrants arrive in the United States seeking improved living conditions and protection from persecution. To assist them in establishing their lives here, USCRI provides both pro bono and low-bono legal services, ensuring comprehensive immigration legal support.

As part of our Preferred Communities initiative, USCRI offers pro bono legal assistance to Afghan parolees, asylees, and refugees across the nation. We are currently seeking a Supervising Attorney to oversee this program, contributing to its operations, management, and providing direct legal representation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise and support PC II Staff Attorneys and Legal Assistants in various regions of the United States.
  • Ensure timely submission of monthly data reports to the Legal Network Coordinator.
  • Maintain current contact information for all supervised offices.
  • Conduct client intakes and provide legal consultations to assess eligibility for relief.
  • Prepare and submit immigration applications for all eligible forms of relief as per ORR Policy Letters.
  • Make appropriate referrals to other service providers and community partners.
  • Represent clients before U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, including attending interviews and appointments.
  • Engage in outreach, lead training sessions, and participate in networking activities.
  • Maintain bar membership through ongoing legal education.
  • Report directly to the Managing Attorney and undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • J.D. with a valid law practice license and a minimum of two years of immigration law experience.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, strong writing abilities, and demonstrated intercultural communication skills.
  • Proficient in Outlook, MS Word, MS Access, MS Excel, and database management.
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings and engage in community-based activities.
  • Positive attitude and ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while also functioning independently.
  • Commitment to USCRI's values, including respect for individuals, confidentiality, and appreciation for a multicultural environment.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

  • Successful completion of USCRI's Orientation and Training programs.
  • Participation in additional training as identified by supervisors or Human Resources.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to perform tasks requiring manual dexterity, visual acuity, and auditory skills.
  • Capacity for repetitive motions, prolonged sitting and standing, and sustained mental engagement.
  • Occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds), bending, and carrying.
  • Basic mathematical skills for quantitative tasks.
