Candidate Profile
We seek to attract and nurture skilled trial attorneys who will gain substantial courtroom experience across multiple jurisdictions. The ideal candidate should be adept in both leading and supporting roles in complex civil litigation, showcasing a strong background in pre-trial processes, oral advocacy, and witness examination.

Work Environment
Our attorneys regularly tackle case management challenges, negotiate with opposing parties, draft legal motions and briefs, conduct depositions, prepare for trials, and present oral arguments. They collaborate closely with agency attorneys and program staff, as well as expert witnesses, to prepare comprehensive expert reports.
We prioritize professional development, providing robust training opportunities and encouraging new attorneys to engage in significant legal writing and courtroom experiences within their first year. Opportunities to participate in trials typically arise within the initial two years of employment.
Qualifications
Applicants must possess a J.D. degree, be an active member of the bar in any jurisdiction, and be a U.S. citizen or national. A strong interest in federal litigation and trial work, along with an exceptional academic record, is essential. Experience as a judicial clerk and familiarity with defensive civil litigation are highly desirable, as is knowledge of Fifth Amendment takings, natural resource law, or Indian law.
Compensation
The salary range for this position is as follows:
- GS-14: $139,395 - $181,216
- GS-15: $163,964 - $191,900
