POSITION SUMMARY

Each year, numerous refugees and immigrants arrive in the United States seeking improved living conditions and protection from persecution. To assist them in establishing their lives, USCRI provides pro bono and low-cost legal services aimed at delivering competent and comprehensive immigration legal assistance.

As part of our Preferred Communities initiative, USCRI offers pro bono legal support to Afghan parolees, asylees, and refugees across the nation. We are currently seeking a Supervising Attorney for this initiative, who will play a crucial role in overseeing program activities, managing staff, and providing direct legal representation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise and support PC II Staff Attorneys and Legal Assistants across various regions of the United States.
  • Ensure timely submission of monthly data reports to the Legal Network Coordinator.
  • Maintain updated contact information for all supervised offices.
  • Conduct client intakes and provide legal consultations to assess eligibility for legal relief.
  • Prepare and submit immigration applications for eligible Afghan and Ukrainian populations as outlined in ORR Policy Letters.
  • Facilitate referrals to other service providers and community partners as necessary.
  • Represent clients in proceedings before U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, including immigration interviews.
  • Engage in outreach, lead training sessions, and participate in networking opportunities.
  • Maintain bar membership through ongoing legal education.
  • Report directly to the Managing Attorney and undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • J.D. with a valid legal practice license and a minimum of two years of experience in immigration law.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, strong writing abilities, and demonstrated intercultural communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Access, Excel, and various database applications.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and community-based events.
  • A positive attitude and a collaborative spirit, with the ability to work independently.
  • Commitment to USCRI's values, including respect for individuals, confidentiality, and appreciation for a multicultural environment.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

  • Successful completion of USCRI's Orientation and Training programs.
  • Participation in additional training as identified by the supervisor or Human Resources.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to perform tasks requiring manual dexterity, visual and auditory acuity.
  • Capability to engage in repetitive motions, prolonged sitting and standing, and sustained mental focus.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds, bending, pulling, and carrying may be required.
  • Basic quantitative skills for performing calculations and measurements.
