Position Overview
The Learning Support Specialist II (LSS2) is responsible for providing professional tutoring services. This role involves engaging with students in person, offering support either individually or in small groups to enhance their understanding of the subject matter. The LSS2 will collaborate with multiple students and other tutors in a shared educational environment. Regular communication with the department regarding student progress and needs is essential. The LSS2 will also generate reports using tutoring software and share them with their supervisor. A strong command of the subject matter and effective communication skills are required to convey concepts using diverse teaching methods and tools.
Tutoring Responsibilities

  • Enhances students' comprehension and mastery of course material outside of class. Tutors are assigned to introductory courses within their area of expertise.
  • Assists students in developing and applying effective learning and study strategies.
  • Meets with students at scheduled times.
Administrative Duties
  • Keeps thorough documentation of all tutoring sessions and generates departmental reports regarding tutoring activities.
  • Communicates relevant information to course instructors to support student learning. Proficient use and implementation of the College's tutoring software is required.
Professional Development
  • Maintains an in-depth understanding of course materials and various instructional methodologies to cater to different student learning styles. Participation in tutor training sessions is expected.
  • Provides assistance to Learning Support Specialists, Peer Tutors, and Supplemental Instructional Leaders, including technical support for tutoring software and reports.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in English or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of two years of teaching or tutoring experience in a higher education setting.
Additional Requirements:
  • Possession of a State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or the ability to access work sites as needed.
