Position Overview

The Educational Assistance Specialist II (EAS II) fulfills the role of a professional tutor. The EAS II will provide in-person tutoring and is expected to engage with students, either individually or in small groups, to help them achieve a comprehensive understanding of the assigned subjects. The EAS II must effectively manage multiple students in a collaborative tutoring environment alongside other tutors. This position involves communication with the department regarding each student's progress and specific needs. Additionally, the EAS II is responsible for generating reports from tutoring software and submitting them to their supervisor. A strong command of the subject matter and the ability to convey it effectively using diverse teaching methods and tools is essential.
Tutoring Responsibilities

  • Enhances students' comprehension and mastery of course material for which they seek assistance, outside of classroom hours. Tutors are limited to introductory courses within their area of expertise.
  • Assists students in developing and applying effective learning and study techniques.
  • Meets with students at scheduled times.
Administrative Duties
  • Keeps thorough documentation of all tutoring sessions. Generates departmental reports related to tutoring and maintains records of departmental tutoring interactions.
  • Communicates relevant information to course instructors that can aid in facilitating student learning of course content. Proficient use and implementation of the college's tutoring software is required.
Professional Development
  • Maintains an extensive knowledge of course materials and various instructional methodologies to cater to different student learning styles. Participates in tutor training sessions.
  • Provides support to Learning Support Specialists, Learning Support Specialist I, Peer Tutors, and Supplemental Instructional Leaders. Assists with technical support for tutoring software and reporting.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possession of a State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to access work sites.
