Role Summary

The Transportation Coordinator is tasked with providing safe and reliable transportation for Tribal Member children to and from educational institutions, as well as supporting the Youth Education Program. Responsibilities include developing a schedule for regular routes, addressing transportation needs, and assisting passengers with boarding and disembarking from the vehicle. Additional duties may involve supervising children during transit, maintaining vehicle cleanliness, and performing other assigned tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Safely operate vans, buses, or passenger vehicles.
  2. Create and manage schedules for regular transportation routes.
  3. Respond to management requests for unscheduled pickups or drop-offs.
  4. Assist passengers with boarding and exiting the vehicle.
  5. Help with loading and unloading luggage and packages as necessary.
  6. Communicate effectively using a two-way radio system.
  7. Monitor traffic and weather conditions, reporting any potential issues to management.
  8. Document accidents or safety incidents to the appropriate authorities.
  9. Conduct thorough inspections of vehicles at the start of each shift.
  10. Ensure regular vehicle maintenance and cleanliness.
  11. Maintain a courteous and professional demeanor with all children, staff, and visitors.
  12. Collaborate with management and staff to develop and implement policies and procedures.
  13. Promote safety by conducting audits and participating in safety meetings.
  14. Attend training sessions on safety, quality improvement, and other relevant topics.
  15. Adhere to dress codes and grooming standards as outlined in company policies.
  16. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. High School Diploma or GED is required.
  2. A minimum of two years of experience in passenger transportation is necessary.
  3. Current DMV printout is required.
  4. Must be at least 25 years old with a clean driving record.
  5. Fewer than three points on your motor vehicle record in the past five years.
  6. Experience in a Native American community is preferred.
  7. Ability to perform basic calculations and apply mathematical concepts.
  8. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  9. Familiarity with California Transportation Regulations is essential.
  10. Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  11. Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  12. Availability to work nights and weekends as needed.
  13. A valid California Driver's license and personal vehicle insurance are required.
