The University of Iowa Community Clinics (UICC) is in search of a dedicated 100% (40 hours per week) Practical Nursing Specialist (PNS) to join our expanding Primary Care Clinic team. Our professionals are committed to providing comprehensive care for individuals across all age groups, from infancy through adulthood.

This role primarily focuses on supporting our Family Medicine Clinics, with the potential to assist in various other specialties, including but not limited to Pediatrics and Specialty/Outreach Clinics.

Our Family Medicine team is equipped to care for all family members, ensuring seamless access to specialty services when required. Our family medicine providers collaborate closely with UI Health Care specialists, utilizing a unified medical record system to streamline patient care.

In our Pediatric Clinics, we specialize in the health of infants, children, and adolescents, offering a wide range of services from routine check-ups to the management of complex health conditions. The University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital team works collaboratively with pediatric specialists, ensuring effective communication and personalized care for every patient.

As a Practical Nursing Specialist, you will build relationships with patients and monitor their health care histories, delivering compassionate and individualized care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist patients in the Primary Care Clinic.
  • Deliver nursing care under the guidance of a registered professional nurse.
  • Contribute to the formulation of nursing care plans and the execution of therapeutic programs for patients.
  • In less complex scenarios, may oversee and direct assigned nursing staff; in more intricate situations, act as an aide to the registered professional nurse.
  • Facilitate patient flow through the clinic by engaging with patients, families, and staff.
  • Possess a valid Driver's License and meet UI Fleet Safety Standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Licensed as a Practical Nurse (PNS) with the Iowa Board of Nursing or eligible for a temporary work permit.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support certification.

Special Qualifications:

  • Possess a valid Driver's License and meet UI Fleet Safety Standards.

Highly Desired Qualifications:

  • Ability to adapt to various clinical settings and patient demographics.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Previous experience with EPIC systems.
  • Experience in fostering a welcoming and respectful work environment.
  • Minimum of 6 months in an ambulatory care setting.
  • Proven ability to work independently.
