Open to all qualified candidates.

Under the guidance of management, you will oversee the operations of a municipal aquatic facility during assigned shifts; act in the capacity of the pool manager when required; perform lifeguarding and instructional duties; and engage in related responsibilities as necessary.

Essential Functions

- Assist the pool manager, or take charge in their absence, ensuring the safety and functionality of all facilities and staff at the municipal pool.
- Supervise the opening and closing procedures of the pool while maintaining sanitary and safe conditions.
- Enforce regulations, maintain discipline, and proactively identify hazardous situations, taking necessary precautions.
- Conduct rescues for swimmers in distress and provide first aid and CPR as needed.
- Train and mentor lifeguards, organize swimming competitions, and instruct classes in swimming, diving, and lifesaving techniques.
- Monitor water quality, inspect equipment, and maintain accurate attendance and financial records.
- Prepare staff schedules and coordinate special aquatic programs and events.
- Drive for city-related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Employment Standards:

- Knowledge of lifeguarding, lifesaving, and first aid practices; laws governing safe and sanitary pool operations; and the mechanical functions of pool equipment including filtration and chlorination systems.

- Ability to effectively manage the safe operation of a large municipal pool, supervise staff, enforce rules, and maintain order.
- Must be alert, attentive, and capable of exercising sound judgment; make prompt decisions in emergencies; prepare clear reports; and establish effective working relationships with supervisors, colleagues, and the public.

Education/Training: Graduation from high school and at least one season of experience as a lifeguard and instructor. NOTE: One season is equivalent to 320 working hours.

Special Conditions & Requirements: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age at the time of appointment and in good physical condition.

License & Certificates: A valid California Class "C" driver's license or equivalent, a valid First Aid Certificate meeting Emergency Medical Service Authority standards, a valid Water Safety Instructor's Certificate, and a valid Lifeguard Certificate from recognized providers, as determined by the Management Services department, at the time of appointment. Valid CPR and Communicable Disease Certificates from authorized providers must be obtained within two weeks of appointment.
