Overview

Under supervision, responsible for performing essential lifeguard and instructional tasks at various municipal aquatic facilities; and to engage in related responsibilities as necessary.

Key Responsibilities

- Enforce facility rules and regulations while ensuring a safe environment for all patrons.
- Perform rescues for individuals in distress and provide first aid and CPR as needed.
- Conduct or assist in leading classes in swimming, diving, basic water safety, emergency preparedness, and aquatic sports.
- Participate in general upkeep and cleaning duties, including the operation and maintenance of filtration and chlorination systems.
- Conduct tests to monitor chemical levels and ensure equipment functionality.
- Officiate at swimming and diving competitions.

Qualifications

Required Skills: Proficient knowledge of lifesaving techniques and first aid. Ability to enforce safety regulations and maintain order; conduct instructional sessions and competitions; operate mechanical systems associated with large aquatic facilities; remain vigilant and exercise sound judgment; demonstrate patience and understanding when interacting with children; foster effective working relationships with supervisors, colleagues, and the community.

Certifications: A valid First Aid Certificate meeting Emergency Medical Service Authority standards, a valid Water Safety Instructor's Certificate, and a valid Lifeguard Certificate from recognized providers at the time of hire. Valid CPR and Communicable Disease Certificates from authorized providers must be obtained within two weeks of hire.

Additional Information

A valid California Class "C" driver's license or equivalent may be required at the time of hire.
