Position Overview

As an Ophthalmic Medical Assistant, you will collaborate closely with the physician to document patient interactions and support minor in-office procedures.


Work Schedule

Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with a start time between 7:45 and 9:00 AM. This role includes an 8.5-hour shift with a 30-minute lunch break.


Key Responsibilities
  • Escort patients to and from examination rooms.
  • Accurately document patient evaluations and physician comments in the electronic medical record.
  • Complete patient encounter forms based on the diagnosis established.
  • Administer eye drops for anesthesia, dilation, or medication as directed.
  • Assist the physician chair-side and provide treatment as permitted.
  • Review care instructions with patients to ensure understanding.
  • Gather comprehensive patient history, including medical and family histories, and chief complaints.
  • Assess visual acuity, including distance and near vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and color vision.
  • Conduct examinations for ocular abnormalities.
  • Perform additional tests such as A-scans, B-scans, fundus photography, corneal topography, HRTII, and pachymetry.
  • Measure intraocular pressure as part of glaucoma testing.
  • Utilize automated lensometry to read eyeglass prescriptions.
  • Prepare examination rooms for patient treatment.
  • Ensure patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Exhibit a fundamental understanding of eye anatomy, diseases, symptoms, and ocular medications.
  • Stay informed about the latest advancements in technology and medications, and address general patient inquiries.

QualificationsRequired
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license with the ability to operate a vehicle.
  • Proficient computer skills with a typing speed of 40+ words per minute.
Preferred
  • Experience as a Medical Scribe.
  • Familiarity with Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Entry-level candidates are welcome, typically with 0-3 years of experience.
