Patient Safety Coordinator

Role Summary: The Patient Safety Associate plays a crucial role in ensuring the well-being of patients within the healthcare environment. This position involves a variety of responsibilities aimed at maintaining patient safety and comfort under the guidance of nursing staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducts essential patient monitoring tasks under the supervision of a designated Nurse.
- Observes and reports on patient behavior and activities to the responsible Nurse or technician regularly.
- Assists the charge Nurse in accurately measuring and documenting patient intake and output.
- Accompanies patients during medical procedures and tests, ensuring their safety and comfort throughout.
- Provides assistance to patients with mobility, including trips to the restroom.
- Responds to the dynamic needs of patients and the unit, potentially serving as a runner or transporting patients during emergencies.
- Ensures patient comfort, safety, and satisfaction at all times.
- Performs essential patient care tasks related to daily living activities, including feeding and personal hygiene.
- Assists with bathing, changing linens, and repositioning patients as directed by the supervising Nurse.
- Maintains constant observation of assigned patients, ensuring they are never left unattended unless instructed otherwise.
- Avoids distractions that could compromise patient care, including reading or using personal devices.
- Documents patient activities every 15 minutes and provides updates to the Nurse.
- Responds promptly to patient call bells and notifies the appropriate care team member as needed.
- Restocks departmental supplies to ensure availability.
- Understands and adheres to hospital emergency protocols.
- Maintains a clean and safe work environment by following established standards and procedures.
- Upholds strict confidentiality regarding patient information in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Waits for appropriate relief from the Nurse in charge or PSA lead before taking breaks.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED, or equivalent work experience of three years.
- Eligibility to work legally in the United States.
- Successful completion of background and drug screenings.
- Previous experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or in a healthcare setting is preferred.
- Fluency in English, including speaking, reading, and writing.
- Completion of training in Patient Safety Associate (PSA), Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is required.
- Must meet immunization and health screening requirements.
- Demonstrates professionalism with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Exhibits a passion for customer service and attention to detail.

Physical Demands:
- Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, talk, see, and hear.
- Must be capable of lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 75 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to push and pull weights of 75 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally.
- Must be able to push and pull patients in wheelchairs, ranging from 100 to 350 pounds, over considerable distances.
- Flexibility in working hours and extended shifts may be necessary.
- Must pass medical screening for the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), as required by the assignment.
