Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Financial Assistance Representative to join our team at Hackensack Meridian Health. As a key member of our financial services team, you will play a critical role in ensuring that our patients receive the financial assistance they need to access quality healthcare.

Key Responsibilities
  • Screen patients for financial assistance programs, including Medicaid, Charity Care, and Get Covered NJ Marketplace.
  • Accurately process Presumptive Eligibility (PE) Medicaid applications and follow up to ensure patients become enrolled in NJ Family Care (NJFC).
  • Review supporting documentation to ensure compliance with Federal and State regulations.
  • Provide timely updates to ensure successful reimbursement.
  • Assist in the completion of financial assistance applications and obtain signatures from patients or their designees.
  • Analyze documentation, such as bank statements and tax forms, to determine eligibility for financial assistance.
  • Use online insurance eligibility systems to verify patient eligibility.
  • Respond to patient inquiries and resolve issues promptly and professionally.
  • Enter data into the State of NJ PE/New Jersey Family Care systems and ensure timely mailing of confirmations to patients.
  • Accurately enter data into the HMH Financial Assistance workflow system and assign status for timely follow-up.
  • Approve or deny Charity Care applications within 45 days of submission.
  • Scan documents and enter notes into systems in a timely manner.
  • Complete daily, weekly, and monthly reports as required.
  • Collaborate with patients and various HMH departments to ensure successful reimbursement.
  • Provide on-site support to departments and attend Get Covered NJ Certified Applications Counselor events as required.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Proficiency in workflow/work queue systems, Patient Management system, document Imaging, PDF creators, Microsoft Office/Google, and website applications.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to increase patient satisfaction.
  • Strong critical thinking skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Google Suite platforms.
  • Ability to travel to other HMH sites within the region as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
  • One or more years of experience with NJ Charity Care regulations, NJFC program, and/or other related financial assistance/counseling programs.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Must pass Presumptive Eligibility (PE) certification at hire and maintain any future updates/re-certifications as required by the State of NJ.
  • Must obtain Certified Application Counselor Certification through State of NJ Get Covered NJ upon hire and maintain via annual recertification.
