Product Engineer Job Description

The Product Engineer plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and quality of our manufactured products. This position is responsible for supporting the improvement of existing products, implementing quality enhancements, and executing customer-driven design revisions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and administer Engineering Changes for complex products, including welded steel structures, sheet metal components, and non-metallic components.
  • Support the development and implementation of design changes for existing products.
  • Translate customer requirements into product specifications.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and maintain product configurations.
  • Translate customer requests and requirements into engineering change requests.
  • Create and modify 3D model geometries.
  • Complete component evaluation and selection.
  • Maintain accurate Bills of Materials for design changes.
  • Work with Cost Estimating, Purchasing, Planning, Sales, Manufacturing Engineering, and Quality Engineering teams.
Design Review and Implementation:

The Product Engineer conducts design review activities to ensure robust technical development processes and methodologies are implemented on products post-launch.

Develop design solutions and manufacturing solutions based on an understanding of internal and external manufacturing processes and capabilities.

Conduct product design revision implementation and incorporate facility feedback to optimize cost and quality.

Collaboration and Communication:

The Product Engineer provides concise and effective technical guidance and communication to internal and external customers.

Serve as a customer-facing liaison to resolve current production design-based issues and accurately define and deliver on customer requested production improvements and changes.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5-10+ years of experience in steel structure, sheet metal part design, and welded component assembly.
  • 3D modeling experience (Creo, Solidworks, etc.).
  • Design for Manufacturability experience in complex product environments.
  • Strong understanding of Geometrical Dimensioning & Tolerancing requirements.
