Infrastructure Automation Specialists are responsible for automating software builds, testing, deployment systems, and infrastructure as code. They oversee various development, testing, staging, and demonstration environments (including code deployment via Continuous Improvement (CI)/Continuous Delivery (CD) pipelines, backups, and data refreshes), as well as deploying and managing software within Costco's production landscape while maximizing automation. They play a crucial role in continuously enhancing technology in a collaborative and innovative agile setting, utilizing cutting-edge technologies and industry best practices to discover more effective and efficient methods of delivering solutions that align with business goals.

The Enterprise API Gateway team at Costco is seeking a highly driven, self-motivated, and experienced technical professional. The responsibilities of the Infrastructure Automation Specialist will encompass the automation of software builds, testing, deployment systems, and infrastructure.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identifies, creates, and implements software development and security standards and practices.
  • Plans, designs, and documents software components.
  • Develops and operates comprehensive automated solutions for IT operations activities (including deployment, release management, monitoring, etc.)
  • Collaborates with Operations, Development, and QA teams to create solutions that are designed for scalability and simplified maintenance.
  • Creates and manages Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
  • Maintains, extends, and builds automated CI and CD pipelines.
  • Demonstrates expertise in deploying integrated or stand-alone releases across multiple interconnected applications.
  • Utilizes industry-standard tools to enhance and expedite the delivery of our products and services.
  • Provides prompt and thoughtful issue resolution by executing quick fixes or proactively identifying and addressing problems related to builds in production environments.
  • Establishes pipelines to periodically generate code quality metrics.
  • Empowers each team to be self-sufficient by providing tools and training, fostering collaboration among teams to achieve common objectives.
  • Coordinates resources across technology functions to establish and monitor environments.
  • Develops workflows that leverage automated pipelines for CI and CD.
  • Works closely with product and application teams to devise version control branching strategies.
  • Collaborates across value streams with other Infrastructure Automation Specialists to prevent and resolve merge conflicts.
  • Develops tool integrations that enable end-to-end traceability for application development (from requirements to code changes made to meet those requirements).
  • Configures, maintains, and optimizes infrastructure across multiple cloud platforms (Google and Azure).
  • Designs, implements, and manages reliable build/deployment/test automation systems.
  • Monitors official builds and drives infrastructure issues to resolution.
  • Utilizes tools such as Azure DevOps, Terraform, Jenkins, Puppet, Azure Test Labs, and GitHub Actions to enhance and expedite the delivery of our products and services.
  • Collaborates with developers and IT staff to oversee code releases.
  • Participates in release processes and contributes to tooling enhancements.
  • Works with Product Owners to plan sprints; collaborates with Operations, Development, and QA teams to create solutions that are predisposed to scalability and simplified maintenance.
  • Mentors and supports junior employees by providing guidance and feedback to foster their growth.
QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5 years of IT experience.
  • 3 years of experience with Automation and Orchestration tools/technologies (Azure DevOps, Terraform, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, etc.).
  • 3 years of software development experience and 3 years of infrastructure experience. Familiarity with Agile Methodologies (scrum, kanban).
  • Experience in supporting, maintaining, and monitoring pipelines (real-time and batch).
  • Experience in provisioning and managing cloud services is required, with a preference for Google.
  • Strong understanding of development/coding methodologies.
  • Significant experience with orchestration toolsets, such as Kubernetes, Ansible, and Docker.
  • Proficient scripting skills (Powershell, Bash, Python, etc.).
  • Demonstrates high integrity, accountability, a positive attitude, and a willingness to contribute to team success.
  • Highly responsive, capable of working under pressure during crises with a strong sense of urgency.
  • Responsible, conscientious, organized, self-motivated, and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to proactively analyze potential future issues.
  • Available for off-hours work as needed, including weekends, holidays, and 24/7 support.

Recommended Qualifications

  • Google Cloud and Terraform certification.
  • Experience in developing and operating comprehensive automated solutions for IT operations activities (including deployment, release management, monitoring, etc.). Successful internal candidates will have spent one year or more on their current team.
  • Demonstrated experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery.
  • Familiarity with APIs and Web services.
  • Knowledge of Information Security best practices and principles (certificates, encryption, etc.).
