This Specialist will act as a technical subject matter expert, refining existing functional requirements for the Linux and AIX Infrastructure at Costco.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads and collaborates on the technical assessment of all hardware and infrastructure, providing recommendations, sourcing quotes, and preparing necessary documentation.
  • Implements practices, processes, and procedures in alignment with Costco's information security policies and IT standards.
  • Automates, documents, shares knowledge, educates, delegates, and enhances processes.
  • Automates tasks and activities by utilizing APIs.
  • Facilitates application deployment and modifications through CI/CD pipelines by leveraging DevOps methodologies.
  • Develops infrastructure automation using tools such as Ansible, Chef, Puppet, SaltStack, etc.
  • Assesses vendor hardware recommendations for operational reliability.
  • Designs and implements solutions that fulfill business requirements while establishing and enforcing system and security standards.
  • Creates prototypes for potential features.
  • Produces conceptual and detailed technical design documents and standards.
  • Enhances system and platform automation, identifying opportunities for streamlining and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborates with architects to plan, design, implement, and enhance new capabilities, solutions, and platforms.
  • Partners with project managers, solution leads, and other stakeholders to estimate infrastructure components for projects.
  • Contributes to, interprets, and communicates enterprise, technical, project, and operational strategies to the team.
  • Develops a team vision to drive new capabilities aligned with a published roadmap, in collaboration with management.
  • Ensures that proposed and existing systems align with organizational standards, goals, and objectives.
  • Formulates and directs activities that align short-term goals with long-term initiatives, providing accurate and timely estimates.
  • Collaborates with teams, management, and stakeholders to conceptualize, design, build, test, and release products.
  • Analyzes user and project requirements for effective solutions.
  • Identifies and resolves issues, often anticipating problems before they arise; develops and evaluates options and implements solutions in accordance with incident and problem management services, policies, procedures, and SLAs.
  • Engages in Infrastructure-as-Code and automation practices.
  • Provides third-level escalation support for recovery and restoration during disasters or major incidents.
  • Identifies and resolves system, application, or process issues, escalating and documenting as necessary.
  • Supplies technical input for major service outage root cause analyses and corrective action reports.
  • Manages system resources to ensure optimal performance and adequate capacity for peak periods and growth.
  • Plans and executes significant platform software and operating system upgrades and maintenance in a highly virtualized environment.
  • Implements and maintains enterprise-class Red Hat Linux and AIX Unix solutions supporting systems such as ERP and WebSphere.
  • Collaborates with internal security governance to ensure compliance with the company's security policies and procedures.
  • Learns Costco's technical requirements and recommends appropriate solutions.
  • Plans, configures, and implements enterprise-level designs on Red Hat Linux and AIX Unix platforms to enhance availability, response time, and monitoring of key system metrics in collaboration with project, engineering, and support teams.
  • Drives innovation and adherence to industry best practices, seeking opportunities to automate and improve service delivery.
  • Provides support to the user community utilizing incident and problem management tools, email, and telephone.
  • Creates and maintains comprehensive, up-to-date technical documentation.
QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 8 years of IT experience, including at least 4 years of combined Red Hat Linux and/or AIX Unix experience in an enterprise setting.
  • Proven ability in Systems Management and Administration (applying fixes, loading the OS, creating Gold images, resolving system issues, collaborating with vendors to address problems, etc.).
  • Exceptional troubleshooting skills and the capacity to logically navigate problem situations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Experience with troubleshooting, upgrades, and maintenance of RedHat Enterprise Linux and/or IBM AIX products.
  • Familiarity with orchestration, automation, and configuration management tools (Ansible, Saltstack, HCM, ITOM).
  • Experience with RedHat Satellite and Ansible Automation Platform.
  • Solid experience with services in Enterprise - RedHat Identity Management, Active Directory, DNS, Apache, Tomcat.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Kerberos, cross-realm authentication, and Kerberized services.
  • Ability to develop and document standard operating procedures and best practices in a technical repository.
  • Knowledge of Configuration Management and Change Management Best Practices.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with others to deliver quality solutions.
  • Capable of working effectively and producing consistent results with minimal supervision. Self-motivated, responsible, conscientious, and detail-oriented.
  • Able to perform well under pressure and manage crisis situations professionally.
  • Willingness to support off-hours work as needed, including weekends, holidays, and 24/7 on-call responsibilities on a rotational basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in Computer Science or equivalent formal training and experience.
  • Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or higher certification or equivalent engineering experience.
  • Experience in DevOps and Agile methodologies.
  • Familiarity with VMWare, OpenShift, and virtualized environments.
  • Experience managing GPFS.
  • Experience using and managing NIM Server.
  • Proven experience evaluating and comparing multiple platform options for applications and collaborating with relevant teams to select the appropriate platform.
  • Exposure to configuration and troubleshooting of system networking, storage, virtualization, subsystem management, performance tuning, and user access.
