Position Summary

The NYISO's Mitigation References team is seeking a full-time Associate Physical Withholding & Analysis Analyst. This role involves providing analytical and technical support regarding power market performance, trends, efficiency, and competitiveness within the New York State energy and capacity markets through comprehensive studies, regular reporting, and audits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct financial assessments of new and existing power generation facilities and transmission projects, including calculations of net costs, ongoing expenses, avoidable costs, and net energy revenues.
  • Engage with Market Participants through written requests and teleconferences to ensure thorough due diligence on project costs and financial assumptions.
  • Assist in drafting detailed reports that document the findings of financial evaluations and due diligence activities.
  • Support the development and implementation of departmental compliance programs, ensuring adherence through meticulous documentation and updates of essential processes and controls.
  • Facilitate the creation of new consulting service agreements and manage existing agreements, including budget tracking and invoice reviews.
  • Contribute to the production of market studies focusing on various areas such as energy, ancillary services, and transmission congestion for review by senior management and regulatory bodies.
  • Utilize simulation and statistical analysis tools to investigate changes in market design, competitive structures, and market power.
  • Provide early notifications of market issues to management and produce written reports detailing findings.
  • Communicate analytical results effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Assist in responding to customer inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Develop proficiency in NYISO proprietary software to perform essential functions.
  • Participate in investigations of market power claims and potential tariff violations, collaborating closely with the legal team and other departments.
  • Gain expertise in various aspects of NYISO markets and engage in working group activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Business, Economics, Engineering, Industrial Organization, Computer Science, or a related technical field is required; a Master's Degree is preferred.
  • 0-3 years of relevant industry experience, including conducting engineering studies or energy market analysis.
  • Preferred experience in the development and cost estimation of power generation and transmission projects.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret business publications, technical procedures, and regulations; proficient in writing reports and correspondence.
  • Strong analytical skills to solve a variety of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Office applications and general computer skills.
  • Capability to define problems, gather data, and draw valid conclusions.

Work Environment

The work environment is typically moderate in noise level, with regular interaction with staff and the public. Some travel may be necessary for meetings and training sessions. Flexibility to work both remotely and in the office is provided, enhancing work-life balance.
