Overview

A non-profit veterinary organization dedicated to the welfare of animals at risk of euthanasia is seeking a Veterinary Operations Director. This role is pivotal in overseeing the medical operations across various programs, ensuring the effective delivery of veterinary services and the management of animal care across multiple facilities.

Reporting Structure

The selected candidate will report directly to the Executive Director and will be responsible for comprehensive management of medical operations, utilizing veterinary technicians and veterinarians to provide care for animals in need. This position emphasizes resource management and the implementation of best practices to uphold the highest standards of animal welfare.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Oversight: Act as the primary leader for medical operations, identifying areas for enhancement and supervising daily activities, including scheduling.
  • Policy Development: Assist in the creation, implementation, and maintenance of medical policies and protocols, ensuring adherence to organizational standards and veterinary regulations.
  • Team Management: Collaborate with the Chief Medical Officer to lead a team of veterinary professionals and support staff, fostering a positive work environment and ensuring staff engagement.
  • Client Services: Oversee client-facing operations, ensuring high-quality customer service and satisfaction.

Medical Operations Management

  • Implement the medical vision and strategy aligned with the organization's mission.
  • Establish and monitor quality metrics to maintain clinic standards and compliance.
  • Continuously assess patient outcomes and collaborate with the team to refine medical protocols.
  • Explore technological advancements to improve operational efficiency.
  • Track performance metrics as defined by executive leadership.

Resource Allocation

  • Manage and optimize the distribution of resources, including personnel, equipment, and supplies.
  • Work with the Chief Medical Officer to develop and oversee the veterinary services budget.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality care.
  • Leverage technology to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree is required; a Master's in Business Administration (MBA) is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in veterinary or medical practice management.
  • Experience in an animal shelter environment is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of medical standards, procedures, and best practices is essential.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage with various stakeholders.
  • Proven leadership abilities, with experience in mentoring and collaborating with diverse teams.
