Since its inception in 2020, Cyclyx has established itself as a leader in post-consumer plastic feedstock management, collaborating with industry stakeholders to create groundbreaking recycling solutions for diverse types of post-consumer plastics. The Cyclyx Circularity Lab provides essential plastic testing services, supports engineering and business development initiatives, and conducts fundamental research and development to identify novel circular recycling pathways for plastics.


Position Summary

The Laboratory Technician role is an internship opportunity based in a laboratory setting, focusing on the preparation of samples for both quantitative and qualitative analytical assessments of post-consumer plastics, adhering to established protocols in a dynamic environment. The Technician will collaborate closely with Lab Analysts to assist in various analytical testing processes.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support laboratory operations by:
  • Preparing samples for analysis through methods such as hand sorting, milling, shredding, drying, and weighing.
  • Operating laboratory equipment, including cutting mills and shredders.
  • Utilizing a range of hand tools.
  • Conducting tests, including sieve testing, bulk density measurements, and handheld NIR analysis.
  • Documenting data and communicating test outcomes.
  • Receiving and logging incoming samples.
  • Adhering to all environmental health and safety policies to maintain a safe and compliant work environment.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Familiarity with polymers and plastics is advantageous.
  • Experience with LIMS data management software is a plus.
  • Proven track record in a similar role, demonstrating the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong organizational, verbal communication, and technical writing skills.
  • Detail-oriented with robust problem-solving capabilities.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including MS Office and other relevant software.
  • Exemplary personal and professional ethics.
  • High level of organization and attention to detail.
  • Able to work effectively within a small team in a flexible setting.

Education and Training

  • Currently pursuing a degree in chemistry or animal science, with laboratory experience.

Position Details

Reports to: Lab Manager

Type: Hourly; up to 32 hours per week

Work Hours: Generally, Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Location: Portsmouth, NH

Work Environment: Professional office and laboratory setting (PPE required)

Travel: None

Physical Requirements: The role involves a mix of office work and laboratory tasks, including:

  • Prolonged standing and sitting.
  • Handling tools and equipment, requiring fine motor skills.
  • Reaching, stooping, kneeling, bending, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Compliance with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) standards.
