Job Summary

The Library of Congress is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to serve as the Chief of the Research Engagement and General Collections Division. This is a unique opportunity to lead a team of experts in the preservation, security, and service of the Library's collections.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Planning and Direction: Develop and implement programs and operations managed through the division, ensuring alignment with the Library's mission and strategic plan.
  • Leadership and Management: Manage supervisors and staff, providing guidance and oversight to ensure the effective delivery of services.
  • Collection Management: Exercise overall responsibility for the oversight and administration of the Library's collections, ensuring their preservation, security, and accessibility.
  • Research Support: Ensure the provision of researcher support services, including subject-level recommending officer coverage and the acquisition of important collections.
  • Access and Service: Ensure the timely and effective service of the collections to Library users, including inter-library loan, Congressional loan, and reader registration services.
  • Policy Development: Recommend policy related to the acquisition of collections and the provision of services.
  • Assessment and Evaluation: Lead a robust assessment program to enable continuous improvements in the provision of services.
Requirements
  • Leadership and Management: Ability to exercise supervisory and/or managerial authorities, coordinate, develop, and implement multiple projects.
  • Collection Development: Ability to develop and/or manage library collections, manage reference and research services, and provide consultation or liaison services.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with stakeholders, including Library staff, researchers, and the public.
Eligibility
