Senior Manager, Mechanical Engineering - Avionics

At Vast, we are dedicated to pioneering a future where humanity thrives in space. Our innovative projects include the development of artificial gravity space stations, enabling extended stays in space without the detrimental effects of zero-gravity. Our flagship crewed habitat, Haven-1, is set to become the first commercial space station, poised for launch into low earth orbit.

We are currently seeking a Senior Manager of Mechanical Engineering - Avionics, who will report directly to the Senior Vice President of Avionics. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the mechanical design and installation of electronic enclosures, assemblies, and cable harnesses for our advanced space vehicles and support systems.

This position is a full-time, exempt role based in our operational hub.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a dedicated team focused on vehicle components and subsystems, guiding projects from initial requirements through to installation.
  • Ensure adherence to established standards, processes, and tools for complex avionics enclosure design, analysis, and harnessing.
  • Foster team growth and development, including performance management, training, career advancement, hiring, and mentorship.
  • Provide both managerial and technical oversight, contributing significantly to the quality and direction of your team's output.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Electrical Engineering, or a related STEM field.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing technical teams or leading functional groups, with a focus on delivering high-quality work and supporting employee development.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical design, electronic hardware packaging, and related analysis or testing.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Experience in designing robust electronic enclosures and cable harnesses for space, commercial aviation, or similar high-performance sectors.
  • Proficiency in developing standardized procedures and techniques.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment, demonstrating self-direction and effective multitasking.
  • Strong communication skills for conveying complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional partners, including executive management, procurement, production, quality assurance, and materials & processes.
  • Mentor and guide engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of learning and excellence.

Compensation and Benefits:

The salary range for this position is $159,000 - $205,000 USD, reflecting the candidate's knowledge, education, skills, experience, and market demand. This role includes comprehensive compensation, equity options, and a robust benefits package, featuring:
