JOIN OUR TEAM
Our Space Systems team is integral to the creation of every satellite and its components at Rocket Lab:

from fully functional satellites destined for lunar and Martian missions to individual components such as solar panels, flight software, and separation systems.

This team comprises engineers, technicians, and designers dedicated to the design, assembly, and integration of satellites for various sectors, including commercial, governmental, and defense.

POSITION: SENIOR SPACECRAFT MECHANICAL ENGINEER
As a Senior Spacecraft Mechanical Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in developing high-performance, lightweight satellite deployment systems and mechanisms tailored for our clientele.

Your contributions will be vital to the Space Systems organization, providing essential deliverables for internal stakeholders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Collaborate with the Business Development team on proposals and mission concepts.
  • Design and develop lightweight satellite systems and mechanisms.
  • Create configurations for high-value scientific and interplanetary missions.
  • Define modern satellite system mechanisms.
  • Oversee component designs from initial concept through to production and testing.
  • Conduct hand calculations and finite element analysis to inform design choices.
  • Lead design, manufacturing, and testing reviews for key components.
  • Maintain product definitions through CAD and production documentation.
  • Manage project timelines, vendor relationships, budgets, and deliverables.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering or a related field.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance.
  • Minimum of 5 years of mechanical engineering experience.
  • Proficiency in CAD modeling and technical drawing.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's or PhD in aerospace or mechanical engineering.
  • Experience in spacecraft or satellite design.
  • Skills in rapid conceptual design iteration.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities in mechanical mechanisms.
  • Hands-on experience in development and testing.
  • Familiarity with test data analysis.
  • Ability to guide a product from concept to production with minimal oversight.
  • Self-motivated with a strong capacity for independent work.
  • Knowledge of GD&T application in component designs.
  • Experience in developing satellite deployment systems.
  • General knowledge of spacecraft systems engineering.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

This role requires specific vision capabilities, including close and distance vision, depth perception, and focus. Regular tasks include sitting, using hands for computer operations, and verbal communication. Physical ability to commute is necessary, along with occasional exposure to dust and moderate noise levels.
