Outdoor Recreation Program Coordinator

Position Reports To: Director of Programs and Educational Services
Classification: Salaried, Non-exempt; Regular full-time
Objective: The Program Specialist will design and manage innovative camp, adventure sports, and travel initiatives for Girl Scouts, aiming to enhance member recruitment and retention.
Work Arrangement: Hybrid work model negotiable—home-based office within the council jurisdiction. In-person work at camp facilities as needed or full-time from the main office if preferred.
Direct Reports: Seasonal program support personnel
Compensation: $38,500

Key Responsibilities:
- Enhance camp utilization at council-owned facilities through member-focused programming and education.
- Attract new members and volunteers via public adventure program information and activities.
- Engage troops across all grade levels in outdoor adventure and travel initiatives.
- Design and implement programs, resources, and volunteer training to ensure high-quality delivery of volunteer-led camp, outdoor, and travel programs.
- Oversee the council's volunteer education supplemental learning track, covering:
- Camping
- Outdoor Adventure
- Travel
- Safety
- Act as a subject matter expert in Girl Scout Program risk management and safety, collaborating with staff and volunteers.
- Utilize knowledge of the National Program Portfolio, Safety Activity Checkpoints, council policies, and the Girl Scout Mission in decision-making.
- Assist in developing and implementing council plans to continually assess girl outcomes and program effectiveness.
- Work with grants and grant-funded initiatives as opportunities arise.
- Ensure program activities align with the Girl Scout mission, fostering a welcoming environment for all participants by promoting diversity and inclusiveness.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree preferred; Associate's Degree accepted with a minimum of two years' experience in recreation, event planning, outdoor programming, community development, or non-profit youth services.
- Experience in outdoor education and safety.
- Grant management experience is a plus.
Position Requirements:
- Willingness to travel throughout the council jurisdiction.
- Valid driver's license and automobile insurance.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and overnights.
- If working in a hybrid model, must have reliable high-speed internet and a designated workspace.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be physically capable of assisting participants and engaging in activities.
- May be exposed to various weather conditions and uneven terrain.
- Must be able to respond to distress signals in diverse environments.
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift and carry over 50 pounds.
