Job Overview

Position Reports To: Director of Programs and Educational Services

Classification: Salaried, Non-exempt; Regular full-time

Objective: The Program Specialist will be responsible for the creation and management of innovative camp, adventure sports, and travel initiatives aimed at enhancing recruitment and retention of members across all age groups.

Work Arrangement: Flexible hybrid model available—remote work within the council's jurisdiction or full-time at the main office.

Direct Reports: Seasonal program support personnel

Compensation: $38,500

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enhance the utilization of council-owned facilities through engaging member programming and educational initiatives.
  • Attract new members and volunteers through accessible adventure program information and activities.
  • Involve troops of various grade levels in outdoor adventure and travel programming.
  • Design and execute programs, resources, and volunteer training to ensure high-quality delivery of volunteer-led camp, outdoor, and travel initiatives.
  • Develop and oversee the council's volunteer education supplemental learning track, covering topics such as:
    • Camping
    • Outdoor Adventure
    • Travel
    • Safety
  • Act as a subject matter expert in risk management and safety within the Girl Scout Program, collaborating with staff and volunteers.
  • Apply knowledge of the National Program Portfolio, Safety Activity Checkpoints, and council policies in all decision-making processes.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of council strategies to continuously assess girl outcomes and program effectiveness.
  • Engage with grants and grant-funded initiatives as opportunities arise.
  • Ensure program activities align with the Girl Scout mission, fostering an inclusive environment for all participants.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred; Associate's Degree accepted with a minimum of two years' experience in recreation, event planning, outdoor programming, community development, or non-profit youth services.
  • Experience in outdoor education and safety is essential.
  • Grant management experience is advantageous.

Position Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel within the council's jurisdiction.
  • Valid driver's license and automobile insurance required.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and overnight as needed.
  • If working remotely, reliable high-speed internet and a designated workspace are necessary.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be physically capable of assisting participants and engaging in activities.
  • Potential exposure to various weather conditions and uneven terrain.
  • Ability to respond to distress signals in diverse environments.
  • Must be able to perform physical tasks such as lifting, carrying, and prolonged sitting.
